Have we lost our moral compass?

I spent years studying the Bible and teaching biblical languages and ethics, and another large part of my working life in Community Action, dealing with poverty and its consequences.

Somewhere along the way I became increasingly interested in a very simple question:

What if we spent a little less time arguing about what people are supposed to believe and more time asking how the Bible says we ought to behave?

That question eventually became my book, Rediscovering Our Moral Compass: A Field Guide to Biblical Ethics for a Divided World.

It isn't an argument that you must accept everything in the Bible or surrender your doubts. It is an invitation to take another look at an ancient moral tradition and ask whether it still has something to teach us.

I'll share a few of those ideas here over the next several weeks.
