🍎TEACHER FEATURE: Jade T🍎

We are so fortunate to have Jade on our team at Northern Door Children's Center! Over the past four years, Jade has been a dedicated teacher in our infant-toddler looping program. Through her role at NDCC, she is also continuing her higher education in Early Childhood Education as part of the T.E.A.C.H. program. As an experienced looping teacher, Jade truly excels at growing alongside her students. This month, she started an exciting new loop with our incoming infants (ages 6 weeks to 12 months) in the Sun 1 Classroom! Her warm approach, incorporation of music, and structured routines give our youngest learners the perfect foundation to thrive.

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! 🍎📚

The halls are full, the backpacks are lined up, and our 3K and 4K kids officially started their student journeys today at Northern Door Children's Center! It’s Back-to-School time, and the energy around here is off the charts!

Before the day is done, we have to give a huge shout-out to our wonderful community of families. Thank you for entrusting us with the care and early education of your children and for everything you did to help us get ready for this exciting day! ...from volunteering at last week’s Kids Clothing Swap to deep cleaning and help prepping the classrooms, we couldn't do it without you! 🫶

And just like that, the sun is setting on the best summer ever! ☀️

Today marks the last day of Camp Cool 2026, and as always, the days went by way too fast. From water days and field trips to endless laughs and new friendships, our hearts (and our photo memory cards) are completely full.

We are so excited to see our amazing Camp Cool kids crush it in their next school year! Go change the world, crew ...but don't forget to come back and see us!

It’s a bittersweet day in our neighborhood 🥹

Today our Camp Curiosity kiddos fly our nest as they move on to kindergarten! For many of these sweet faces, NDCC has been their "second home" since they were just tiny babies in our infant rooms.

Watching them grow has been an honor and a privilege. We’ve always leaned into Mr. Rogers' reminder that "for children, play is serious learning," and oh my, did these kids learn and grow and play here! We are incredibly proud of the kind, creative, and inquisitive little humans they’ve become.

While they are officially moving on to "big kid school," they will always be our neighbors. We will miss them dearly, but we will eagerly await their return next summer as official Camp Coolers!

Go do great things, kindergarteners. We love each and every one of you!

Impromptu Pizza Party thanks to Husby's Food and Spirits!🍕

A mistaken order turned into a wonderful surprise for us! We are incredibly grateful to the team at Husby's for thinking of Northern Door Children's Center and donating these delicious pizzas.

Our teachers have been working incredibly hard this week, wrapping up the final week of Camp Cool while busily preparing for our new 4K class and the upcoming school year. This thoughtful (and delicious!) donation came at the perfect time.

Thank you for fueling our team, Husby's! We are so grateful to be part of such a supportive community.

"Can we play in Ellie's Kitchen?" 💗

Our teachers hear these words daily, and for those who knew her, it's a bittersweet reminder of the All-American girl who inspired it. In our preschool playground sits Ellie's Kitchen, a play kitchen named in loving memory of former student Ellie Helm.

Ellie was vivacious, dramatic, and completely unforgettable. Even during her preschool days here at NDCC, she loved nothing more than dressing up, staging theatrical productions with her friends, and carefully planning her outfits for her future Oscars debut. Tragically, Ellie’s bright light was cut short in an accident at just 21 years old, but her family ensured her joyful, creative spirit would shine on.

Today, Ellie's Kitchen serves as a vibrant space for the creative, dramatic play that she so thoroughly enjoyed. We love seeing her legacy live on every single day through the laughter, big imaginations, and bright smiles of our students.

We are incredibly honored to share an updated and refreshed Marjorie’s Kitchen with our community.🌼

This playground space carries special significance, built in loving memory of one of our beloved students, Marjorie Aurelius. Marjorie grew up right here at the Center, filling our halls with joy from the time she was a baby in our Sun Room, all the way through her 4K graduation and her subsequent bright summers as a Camp Cool kid. To know Marjorie was to love her 💖 and if you asked any classmate who their best friend was, they would always say, "Marjorie."

To honor her memory and keep her inspiring spirit alive for generations to come, we keep her play kitchen fresh and updated. It now features a brand-new hand-painted sign, a custom-made play pizza oven, and fresh new cookware and utensils for our little playground chefs!

Marjorie’s Kitchen remains a living tribute to a girl who brought kindness, laughter, and friendship to everyone she met. Through imaginative play, messy mud pies, and shared laughter, Marjorie gets to stay a part of the playground she loved so much.

We hope this refreshed space brings endless joy to those who knew her, and inspires generations of little learners to play, share, and love just like Marjorie did.

Tomorrow morning, we are kicking off 4K Smart Start, and we could not be more excited to welcome our new 4K students to Northern Door Children's Center!

We know that starting 4K is a big milestone... not just for our little learners, but for families, too! That’s why Smart Start is so special. It’s a gentle, supportive 3-day week designed to help your child get comfortable with their new routine, make fast friends, and get acquainted with their new classroom and amazing teachers.

For 40 years, NDCC has been dedicated to helping children learn + grow in a safe, stimulating, and loving environment. As we start this new school year, we are so proud to guide our newest students with our Core Values:
