SENIOR SPOTLIGHT ✨
RUBY • ATTEMA
Ruby started on trombone in 5th grade, picked up bass guitar in 8th, and did that in jazz band 8th-12th, picked up string bass and played that in jazz band 10th -12th, and played string bass with concert band 11th-12th!

Her fav band tradition: Mr. G’s speech at marching band! 😏
What else keeps her busy?: SFC Bowling!!🎳
One of bands impacts in her life: “Getting to play bass and take those skills with me next year into college.” 😎

CHLOE • ATTEMA
Chloe’s main instrument is French Horn but if you get the chance to watch SFC’s jazz band, you’ll hear her tearing it up on Trumpet as well! 🎺
On top of band, she’s a gifted golfer! 🏌️‍♀️
Her fav band memory: the band trip & the horn section her freshman year ❤️
What has band taught her?: “Band has taught me that hard works pays off, what you put in is what you get out. So if you work hard at something you’re passionate about, you will have success!” 🌟

ERIK • HOOGWERF
Erik started on Euphonium and now plays Tuba/Sousaphone!
Favorite Band Memory: Playing poker on the band trip ♣️ ♦️
Sticking with the music theme, Erik is also active in Choir! 🎶
Wha impact has the band program made on you?: “Being a section leader has helped me develop leadership skills” 🫡
Advice for younger band members: “Stick it out, not just for the band trip, keeping with band all 4 years is worth it.”

GRACE • BYERS
Grace started on oboe, learned flute for pep band and color guard for marching band 💃
Fav Band Memory/Tradition: GLITTER (or Brad) ✨
Bands impact on you: It has taught me how to teach others kindly, and correct others without hurting people’s feelings ❤️
Advice for younger band members: Enjoy the early mornings and parades. You’ll miss them when it’s over 🥹 (and don’t swat at the bees 🐝 )

KATHRYNE • HOFF
Kathryne plays both piano 🎹 and flute! 🪈
Fav Band Moment: Going on the band trip to St. Louis and driving around with Rocky, the bear 🐻 , and him being “arrested” by the Tea Police Department 🤣
What else keeps Kathryne busy: softball 🥎 , singing in choir, and taking voice lessons 🎶
Where’s the weirdest place she’s ever practiced her instrument?? “On the sidewalk outside my house while filming marching videos during COVID.” 😷😂
Any advice for younger band members?: “My advice for younger band members is connect with your fellow band members and make lots of memories together” 💙

Being selected for All-State even for one year is very hard to do. These ladies have been selected for and participated in the SD All-State Band all 4 years of High School!! 😳

Way to go, ladies! Your love of music is inspiring 💙✨

This weekend, 5 students represented SFC at High School All-State Band in Rapid City! 🎼

What a great achievement and a well-deserved honor to be selected, after all the time they’ve poured into practicing and growing as musicians. ❤️
