Feature Friday: Meet Ben!

Ben is one of the incredible volunteers who helps make Midwest Street Medicine’s mission possible.

Ben is an ICU nurse at Avera McKennan and joined MSM because he wanted to connect with a patient population he often sees on the inpatient side, but hopefully make a difference before they ever reach the hospital.

During nursing school, Ben had a clinical rotation at Keystone Treatment Center that helped shape the way he understands and connects with people experiencing homelessness and those impacted by addiction. It strengthened his passion for meeting people with empathy, compassion, and respect.

When asked what he loves most about MSM, Ben shared that it’s the conversations we have and the people we meet. Those moments of connection are at the heart of street medicine.

When Ben isn’t caring for patients, you can probably find him on the disc golf course throwing frisbees.

Feature Friday ✨ Meet Dayle

Dayle is originally from Northwest Iowa and earned her BSN from Augustana University right here in Sioux Falls. She has been a nurse at Avera Heart Hospital for nearly three years, where she combines clinical skill with a genuine passion for connecting with people.

What Dayle enjoys most about nursing is getting to know people and hearing their stories. She believes everyone has a unique perspective and life experience worth understanding.

Outside of work, you'll often find her cheering on her younger siblings as they compete in collegiate sports. She also enjoys running, traveling, and is a self proclaimed concert fiend.

Dayle was introduced to Midwest Street Medicine through a coworker and immediately felt called to be part of the mission. She believes we are called to serve others regardless of their circumstances, and the opportunity to help people where they are with compassion and dignity aligns closely with her own values.

We're grateful to have Dayle on the team and thankful for the heart she brings to this work.

Friendships formed at AU don’t end at graduation — they can last a lifetime.💛💙

When an alumna was diagnosed with T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, her fellow Augustana classmates didn’t think twice about rallying around her. Two Augustana alumnae — who had never even met — came together to be by their friend’s side.
