Back in my day, to be a published hater, you had to write to a magazine. These clippings from Drums & Drumming Magazine in '88 and '89 stick in my memory. Left is a drum transcription to Van Halen's "Get Up." Very difficult to play and with random fills no one but Alex Van Halen would have come up with, IMO. Not to mention he played a one of kind hybrid kit made up of acoustic and electronic instruments for one of the gnarliest sounding set of drums that's ever been recorded. On the right, we have a letter to the editor totally dissing the transcription and Alex Van Halen. Lol!

10 years ago, Jared Ransom interviewed me, my student Brooklyn and neurosurgeon Dr. Asfora for a story about the benefits of playing music. I've never met Dr. Asfora, but watching it again today, it's almost like we met ahead of time and planned together what we were going to say. The premises still seem to hold up pretty well.
