Roosevelt High School Speech Team

We’ve got a lot coming up!! Help support our growing team and their journey to Nationals!

We headed to Lexington, Kentucky last week to compete in the first South Dakota cohort of speech students at the Tournament of Champions! We didn’t break into our rounds sadly, but we learned about the different styles from different regions of the country. We can take our feedback and apply it to the other national tournaments we will be attending. 28 hours in the car is not for the weak!

We are so very happy to announce that Nicole is now qualified for the national tournament in Richmond, Virginia, this summer! That means Nicole has qualified for three different national tournaments this year! Plus she's only a sophomore.

Hopefully we can get a couple more students qualified along with her at the end of April!

We felt a whirlwind of emotions this weekend, so here’s a whirlwind of quals moments!

On a serious note we are so proud of how hard our team has worked this year! From helping gain a lot of new members, to perfecting their craft, and making the coaches become better too, we are so grateful for the wonderful crew we have!

Results:
Nicole place 4th in Original Oratory and is the 1st alternate to Nats.
Meti placed 5th in POI and is the 1st alternate to Nats.
Kennedy placed 7th in POI and is the 3rd alternate to Nats.

We know their hard work and dedication deserves another chance so we will be entering students into the last chance qualifier in April! We can’t forget we still have earned our spots at other National Tournaments like NIETOC and the TOC in April and May!

Today we headed to Harrisburg for the Rushmore Challenge! It was a great last tournament for some of our kiddos. For the rest they were pumped to get the rounds before next weeks national qualifier tournament!

Nicole placed 1st in Original Oratory earning her first NIETOC bid and her 2nd TOC bid, which means we will be heading to Kentucky in April!
Meti placed 5th in POI!
The rest of the crew got higher ranks than all season and is pumped to start looking into scripts for next year! What a great group of students?!

This weekend we decided to stay home!

The annual Sweetstakes Tourney at RHS added speech events this year. We had our novice kiddos compete in Duo, drama, and POI. Our varsity competed in POI and OO. Here’s the results:
Nicole placed 1st in Original Oratory going straight 1s and earning and TOC bid!
Meti placed 1st in POI earning a TOC bid!
Kennedy placed 2nd in POI.
Ariana placed 4th in OO.
Willow and Amira placed 1st in Duo. (Not Pictured)

Next week we will be at Harrisburg and in two weeks we will have our National Qualifying Tournament!

The RHS speech team had a busy weekend! On Friday night we had a lot of our team at the Cavalier Invite at Jefferson.
Mya ended up earning 8th in Informative speaking!
Kennedy broke into finals for both events and placed 6th in Humor and 4th in POI!
Meti broke into finals and placed 2nd in POI!
We got a lot of passionate ladies!

After we woke up early and headed to Millard West in Omaha. Kennedy broke into the final round of POI and placed 6th overall!
What an awesome weekend for our Riders!

Last weekend we took a stroll down 41st street to Lincoln Silver Bowl! There was a ton of great competition, and some new feedback to work on!
Daniel took home 4th place in Novice Extemp! This was only his second time trying the event!
Kennedy ended at 10th in POI!
Nicole ended at 13th in Oratory, she was the next one into honor finals!
A few of us will be traveling to Lincoln, NE next week!

We had a fun and festive time at the Brookings Bell tournament! It was a great way to go into winter break!
Meti placed 3rd in Program Oral Interp (POI).
Kennedy placed 4th in Humor and 2nd in Program Oral Interp (POI).
Lots of learning and new pieces coming in January!

Last weekend we took a trip down to Des Moines to visit the Dowling Paradigm tournament. We were so happy to see some new pieces and get feedback from new perspectives! We have lots to take and improve on.
Kennedy placed 4th in Varsity Humor and 5th in POI.
Amira and Vera earned some hardware too!

We are taking a well deserved weekend off and then back at it in Brookings!

This weekend we stopped at Harrisburg Roaratorium! While we didn’t break into finals as much as we would’ve liked, the vibes were still positive! Lots of time with our friends and supporting each other! Overall, the scores for our newbies are improving, so we are so excited to continue that growth!
Kennedy earned 2nd in POI and Meti earned 3rd in POI!
We will hit it hard again in December 🫶🏻
