Even our youngest learners help care for the space they share!

In our Spark Studio, respect, independence and accountability include looking after the environment around you.

Learners wipe tables, return materials, sweep, and help reset the room.

It’s their studio, after all. 💛

A few moments from Acton Academy Sioux Falls Parent Bootcamp 2026. 💛

Most parents would probably say the same thing: we want more for our kids than good grades.

We want them to trust themselves, work through hard things, make good decisions, and keep asking questions.

Parent Bootcamp gave families a chance to talk about something we do not always stop to think about:

What does success actually look like for my child?

There is no one perfect answer. But the way we answer that question affects what we encourage, what we celebrate, and the kind of childhood we help create.

What happens on Day 1 at a learner-driven school?

A lot of reconnecting, playing, wondering, and figuring things out together.

Learners jumped into carnival games, talked about what makes a game actually fun, opened letters from their families, and started sharing their hopes and curiosities for the year ahead.

A pretty full first day. 💛

Most parents want their children to grow into capable, confident adults.

That starts with the small opportunities we give them now.

Let them answer for themselves.
Let them try before stepping in.
Let them make age-appropriate choices.
Let them struggle with a problem a little longer.
Let them discover that they can figure things out.

Independence grows through practice! ❤️

Why?

A lecture gives a child our answer.
A question gives them the chance to discover their own.

When a learner is asked, “What do you think?” or “What makes you say that?” they have to pause, reason, explain, and sometimes reconsider.

That process is where so much of the learning happens.

At Acton Academy Sioux Falls, Guides use questions every day to help learners think more deeply and take greater ownership of their ideas.

The goal isn’t to have an adult nearby with every answer.

It’s to help raise young people who know how to think when the answer isn’t obvious.

e practice the kind of thinking we hope children will carry for life. ❤️

At Acton Academy Sioux Falls, Guides often answer a question with another question.

That little pause gives learners room to think, test an idea, and work through a problem before turning to an adult for the answer.

It’s a simple habit that works at home, too.

Try asking:
“What do you think?”
“What have you tried?”
“What could you try next?”

Sometimes a good question does more than a quick answer ever could. 💛

Perhaps a better question is:

Is my child becoming someone who loves to learn? 💛

Between ages 4 and 7, so much is developing beneath the surface. Children are learning how to focus, work through frustration, collaborate with others, and keep going when an idea doesn’t work the first time.

And often, those skills grow through play, movement, exploration, and plenty of opportunities to try things for themselves.

In our Spark Studio at Acton Academy Sioux Falls, we make room for that kind of childhood while supporting meaningful academic growth at each learner’s pace.

There is plenty of time to learn more. First, we want them to want to keep learning.

Their school. Their learning. Their choices.

Children build independence when they have frequent opportunities to make decisions, solve problems, change direction, and learn from what happens next.

Sometimes the choice works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

Either way, they’re learning something bigger than the task in front of them: how to trust their own thinking.

One of our favorite parts of a Quest is watching learners surprise us.

They come up with solutions we wouldn’t have thought of. They change their plans halfway through. They ask each other for help. And sometimes, after wrestling with a problem for a while, you hear the best words:

“I figured it out!”

At school, we get to watch that confidence grow in real time!

The project may be what you see at the end, but so much of the learning happens in all those little moments along the way.

School starts soon, and the studios are almost ready. 💛

We’re excited to welcome back familiar faces, meet our newest Acton heroes, and begin another year of big questions, brave tries, and plenty of figuring things out along the way.

And for families still exploring Acton, enrollment stays open throughout the year. If you’d like to learn more or see whether Acton Academy Sioux Falls could be a fit for your family, we’d be happy to connect.

Here’s to a new year of learning, growing, and becoming.
