We may not have planned it, but apparently denim is the dress code this year. Somehow all three of us showed up matching for the first day!

As the new school year begins, I’d love to invite you to check out our page and let me introduce myself!

I’m Mrs. Miller, and this is my 8th year teaching ProStart Culinary at North High!

I have a degree in Culinary Arts and spent many years working in the industry before going back to school to begin my teaching career. One of my favorite parts of teaching is giving students real-world experiences and connecting them with people and businesses in our community.

We LOVE working with local businesses! If you are a local business interested in partnering with our program, attending one of our events, sharing your expertise with students, or looking for catering, please reach out or comment below. We’d love to connect with you!

We’re looking forward to another amazing year of cooking, learning, creating, and preparing the next generation of culinary professionals!

A huge thank you to Tyson Sanchez and Daga’s/5th Avenue Catering for their incredibly generous donation!

Last spring, we hosted our annual Food Truck Day, where Daga’s came in and helped our students serve meals to staff at North High, North Middle, Leeds, the Career Academy, and the ESC. It was a great experience for our students and a fun way to showcase their skills!

Tyson’s support goes far beyond bringing his food truck in for this event. Throughout the year, he also mentors our students, shares his knowledge and experiences, and supports them as they grow in the culinary industry.

I went on maternity leave a week later, so Tyson patiently waited for me to return to give us this donation. We are so grateful for his continued support!

This donation will help us purchase food for labs and events and cover travel expenses for students attending competitions and other events. Thank you, Tyson and Daga’s/5th Avenue Catering, for investing in our students and helping make these opportunities possible! We appreciate you so much!

As summer winds down and we get ready for another school year, I'd love to start something new by highlighting former ProStart students!

Our final COA recipient for this year is Amia Lopez. Amia has been an incredible asset to the ProStart II classroom. She has helped with many of our staff lunches, attended all of the ProStart trips this year, and was part of our 2nd place state management team. Her hard work, dedication, and positive attitude have made a huge impact on our program.

Amia earned her 400 industry hours working at Sonic, Chick-fil-A, and helping with classroom caterings. Even more impressive, she accomplished this as only a junior.

After high school, Amia plans to attend school for criminal justice. Congratulations, Amia! We are so proud of you and excited to see what your future holds.

Meet our newest chef, Tiago Miller. Born last Friday. Mrs. Miller will be on maternity leave the remainder of the year but students are still actively cooking and learning with some awesome subs!

We can’t wait to see what next school year brings us.
