Hello! I’m Mia Heilman, and I am excited to be part of the Morningside AAFS Department as the Agricultural Facilities and Experiential Learning Coordinator. I started this summer and have been busy learning the ropes and taking care of the greenhouse and garden facilities. I am excited to meet all of the students in just a few short days and help provide a purposeful, hands-on experience for you at Morningside!
I grew up on a beef farm in Northeast Iowa, where my love for agriculture began. I became very involved in youth organizations, including FFA, where I had the opportunity to serve as the 2021–2022 Iowa FFA State President. Through that experience, I developed a strong passion for investing in and educating youth in agriculture. Which resulted in me receiving a degree in Agricultural and Life Sciences Education from Iowa State University. For the last two years I have been an Agriculture and Business Teacher and FFA Advisor. I am excited to bring those experiences with me as I transition into postsecondary education and begin this new chapter at Morningside.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, experiencing new places and cultures, and spending time on the farm. My husband, Trey, and I stay busy on our farm about 50 minutes east of Sioux City, where we raise crops, cattle, and hay and do custom work. I am a very hands-on person who enjoys taking on challenges, figuring things out, and learning along the way.
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and creating opportunities for you to learn, get involved, and gain real-world agricultural experiences while you are at Morningside. I can't wait to meet you!
