Congrats to Merlin Humm and Nick Arteaga for winning an award for writing the best scary story for children! Profe Alex’s kids chose theirs for being "muy tenebroso!"

The SPAN 203 students also got to snack on some cupcakes decorated with Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Cuban flags as a reward for their efforts. πŸ˜‹πŸ§

Yesterday, we tried something a little bit different for our Humanities Speaker Series... we held it at noon and invited people over to bring their lunches and enjoy Dr. Brandon Boesch's talk, "Mythologies of Tornadoes." πŸ€”πŸŒͺ

He gave us a deep dive into the process of categorizing tornadoes but then used his background to give the discussion a philosophical twist (I'll see myself out). Thanks to all who showed up; we had a great turnout!

🎬🎨 Saturday night was a blast! Thank you to everyone who showed up to our last showing of ASCO: Without Permission.

A special thanks to Amber Hansen and Reyna Hernandez for coming out to give a presentation about community art and muralism. Their conversation tied in perfectly with the subject of the film! You can check out the mural they created alongside students from across Siouxland by visiting the Gilchrist Learning Center. You can also learn more about their work as Mural on the Wall by visiting their page: https://linktr.ee/muralotw.

We are pumped for TOMORROW! Sat 9/26: FREE and public film screening of ASCO, 7:00 PM in UPS Auditorium, Lincoln Center. Plus, artists Reyna Hernandez and Amber Hansen will share about their local mural collaboration with South Sioux students.
