Because of 191 generous donors, our North Stars Band fundraiser has officially passed our $15,000 goal. Thank you for believing in our students and supporting this program so strongly. We are incredibly grateful and very excited for what this makes possible.

150 DONORS and $11,866 raised! Thank you to our 150 donors who have joined our North Stars Band community. Our students are fortunate to be part of a community that believes in them and what they are working to accomplish.

Your support helps us provide our students with the equipment and resources. This year, fundraising dollars are helping us invest in new drum major platforms, color guard equipment, and other equipment and gear for the Marching Stars.

107 donors helped us blow past our weekend goal of 100 donors, bringing us to $9,507 in just the first week of our fundraiser. Now we’re only $493 away from the two-thirds mark of $10,000, and we want to cross that mark by the end of today.

We still have 21 days left in our 28-day campaign and we would love to keep this momentum going and reach our full $15,000 goal well before the fundraiser ends. In our first week, 89 donors in the North Stars Band community showed up for us in a big way, pushing us past 60% of our $15,000 goal. Our next goal is 100 donors by the end of the weekend.

With the school year starting August 24, we would love to close this fundraiser out strong before then. If you have not given yet, or know someone who has been meaning to, this weekend is the moment.

We're at $6,796, 45 percent of our $15,000 goal. Every gift goes toward new drum major platforms, guard equipment, and other essentials these students need this season. North Stars Band runs on a community that supports these kids.

Marching Stars head drum major Dax spent his summer as a drum major for the Govenaires All-Age Class drum and bugle corps. He spent the last week in Indianapolis at DCI World Championships, performing yesterday and finishing in 10th place. We are proud of his dedication to the Marching Stars, and also of his commitment to balancing his roles in the Marching Stars and the Govenaires.

This is the type of experience that shapes a leader. Dax will take his lessons from this summer and bring them back to the Marching Stars this fall. Programs like ours grow through people willing to test themselves outside their comfort zones, then come home ready to give it back to their community. This is how tradition is built.

Abby doesn't believe in dwelling on a bad rehearsal, not even for a minute.

"Don't dwell on your mistakes. Figure out how you can make it better next time and move on." That's Abby's advice, and it comes from watching what a positive attitude can outlast. She plays clarinet and leads the band as a drum major this year, most looking forward to Starfest and to growing relationships across the band, and her favorite memory so far traces back to winning best drum major at Algona. She wants to help create an environment where people feel included and supported enough to keep pushing toward better.

Progress, for her, is just what's left after you stop arguing with your mistakes.

Leah remembers exactly what winning felt like her freshman year, and now she wants everyone to feel like part of that story.

"Jump out of your comfort zone and meet new people." That's Leah's advice to new members, drawn from watching her own confidence grow since a freshman year win at Algona. She leads the trombone section this year and plays trombone herself, and she's most looking forward to getting closer to the group before showcasing this year's show at football games. Band has brought out her creative and leadership side, plus what she calls her bubbly side, and she wants to see even more people find their way into the band.

She's already living proof that a first competition win doesn't have to stay a memory. It can turn into a mission.

Yahaira remembers exactly what it felt like to be the new kid in the section.

Yahaira plays trumpet in marching band and clarinet in concert band, and leads the trumpet section as section leader this year. Her freshman year trip to Algona is still her favorite band memory, and marching trumpet last season is what made her want to stick around and lead the section herself. "Don't be shy. Try to break out of your comfort zone," she tells new members. She hopes they find someone familiar to lean on the way she once did.

Comfort zones don't stretch themselves. Someone has to go first.
