Siouxland…WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Have you seen Critter? He started his journey to our Passport to Possibilities Fundraiser, and he left his ticket and map behind!

Follow Ariel as she begins her quest, Critter Quest that is! She has a pretty good idea on where he is headed because he dropped his map, and guess what…it has circles around all the friends he plans to stop and invite along the way to the big event!

So now the question is…where will he turn up next? Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled!

In the meantime, get your tickets to Passport to Possibilities happening on October 17th at the Sioux City Country Club. Tickets can be found at www.crittentoncenter.org.

We love visits from our CEO, Kim! (especially when she brings presents with her😃)

We love our employees, they are the heart and soul of our agency! A small (and compartmentalized) way to say thank you...BENTO BOXES!

Thank you, Kim. And thank you to our staff for continuing to provide the BEST care to children and families!

Count the Kicks® is a stillbirth prevention program that helps expectant parents get to know their baby’s normal movement patterns during the third trimester of pregnancy. A change in a baby’s movements could be a red flag for a serious issue developing in pregnancy.

Count the Kicks encourages expectant parents to contact their healthcare provider right away if there is a change in what’s normal for their baby.

This week on Destination: Why- we hear from the Director of our Street Outreach Program, Ariel Sanders.

"My name is Ariel Sanders, I have been with Crittenton Center for 5 years. The most memorable place I have ever visited was Vancouver, BC. Canada has a really vast and beautiful landscape- one minute you're in the mountains, the next you're in the forest or by an ocean. Of course, trying new foods and meeting new people is always cool too!

The most rewarding part about sharing in a child's journey, especially through the lens of street outreach, is so many of our youth do not have a safety net or support system (which is crucial). So being able to be a part of that, and help be that "village" is really an honor. We get to celebrate their wins with them (see them graduate, find housing, birthdays, etc.) and basically getting a window into the special moments of their lives."

Stay tuned as the journey continues towards our Annual Fundraiser, Passport to Possibilities, happening on October 17th, 2026 at the Sioux City Country Club. Tickets and Sponsorships are available at: https://crittentoncenter.org/news/passport-to-possibilities-your-ticket-to-an-evening-of-impact

Early prevention is critical. This August, during Substance Use Primary Prevention Month, we recognize how evidence-based prevention efforts build resilience for youth, families and communities. By strengthening protective factors and lowering risk factors, prevention lets us stay ahead of challenges before they start. For more information, visit: www.samhsa.gov/prevention-month

☀ It’s still cool to have fun in the sun, as long as we’re safe!

Through our Sun Safety Community Project, made possible by the Iowa Cancer Consortium, Crittenton Center received gallons of sunscreen to help keep the children in our care protected during outdoor activities.

But this project has been about more than sunscreen. Our kiddos and families have been learning why sun safety matters and the simple steps they can take to protect their skin, like wearing sunscreen, seeking shade, wearing protective clothing and remembering to reapply.

We’ve had some fun along the way, too! 🌞 Through sun safety activities and education, we’re helping kids build healthy habits they can carry with them long after summer is over.

A big thank you to the Iowa Cancer Consortium for helping us make sun safety a part of caring for the children and families we serve! 💛

United Way of Siouxland is an important part of the work happening across our community, and we’re grateful to be one of the organizations they support.

Their partnership has helped Crittenton Center continue providing services to children, youth, and families throughout Siouxland. We’re also proud to support United Way in return, and this year, Crittenton was recognized as a member of United Way of Siouxland’s 2026 10% Plus Club for increasing our support by 10% or more.
