Our 5th graders are studying Iowa - our history, our government, our culture, our people - from when settlers first arrived to today. On Tuesday, Sept. 29, they had the opportunity to connect their classroom lessons to a field experience in Des Moines.
They visited Living History Farms, the Iowa State Capitol, and Desoto National Wildlife Refuge and Museum. One of the best parts of the trip was seeing students Seek God and Shine His Light through their actions. Students included others, let classmates go ahead of them in line, asked thoughtful questions, shared games, built relationships, and wrote thank-you cards for people who served them along the way.
Students connected their experiences to our school's discipleship characteristics:
“I was a Community Builder because I built relationships with people in my class.”
“I was a Servant Worker by giving a thank-you card to a Subway worker.”
“I was a Truth Finder by finding the truth about Iowa in 1876.”
“I was an Order Discoverer by discovering the design in the Capitol building.”
It was a wonderful trip filled with learning, laughter, service, and opportunities to reflect God’s love. We are so thankful to the Sioux Center Kiwanis for helping fund this trip! Three students gave a presentation at the Kiwanis meeting last week to share their experiences and thank them for their support.
Make plans to attend the Kiwanis Pancake Supper fundraiser on Tuesday, October 20, from 5-7pm at the Centre Mall. Our students will be there serving!
