Max Gendreau
Summer 25’ Intern
Currently: Anderson University 26’ Kinesiology and will return back to Anderson for his Masters

“During the summer of ‘25, I was blessed with the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and intern under Coach Chester. This internship really opened my eyes to what strength and conditioning really is, teaching me the importance of exercise structuring, movement progression, and building relationships.

I got to work with multiple talented athletes in a variety of sports such as C-team/JV/Varisty football, baseball, volleyball, and cheerleading. Building small bonds with the athletes made the process of coaching them easier, as we built more trust with one another and made giving instruction simple. The coaching staff at the school treated me kindly and respected both me and my fellow intern

Coach Chester allowed me to work with different pieces of technology, such as Plyomat, Dashr, and accelerometers to measure barbell speed. These pieces of equipment were vital to measuring athletic performance and gauging the ex*****on level of the athlete. I never got to use or really understand how these different pieces of equipment worked in the past, so using them during this internship was a really cool learning experience

During the times I was not working in the weight room, Coach Chester was teaching me the ins and outs of periodization, as well as CSCS prep and how to properly set up workout plans for athletes in their respective sports. This was a part of strength and conditioning that I was the most worried about because I felt as though this was where I lacked a lot of knowledge. Coach Chester took his time teaching me and really helped me understand the these topics better!” 🐏🔴⚫️

Kellson Wall
Summer 25’ Intern
Currently: Furman 26’ Health Science and will be going to Gardner Webb University for his Masters

“My summer internship at Hillcrest High School was a pivotal experience that bridged the gap between academic theory and high-level athletic application. Serving as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Intern under the supervision of the Head Strength Coach, I had the unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of athletes across varsity, JV, and C-team football, as well as men’s basketball, baseball, women’s volleyball, and cheerleading.
During the summer, I was deeply involved in implementing periodization cycles for the summer preparatory period, ensuring that athletes were performing power, compound, and accessory movements with precision in preparation for the fall competition period. A core part of my role involved motivating athletes throughout each session as well as demonstrating and evaluating lifting techniques to ensure safety and maximal efficiency in the weight room.
What set this experience apart was the integration of performance-enhancing technology. I gained hands-on experience utilizing Dasher, Enode, and Stats Sports to gather and analyze real-time data. Being able to pinpoint specific strengths and weaknesses allowed us to focus on data-driven injury prevention and tailored performance goals for each athlete.
This internship didn’t just sharpen my technical skills in exercise technique, programming, and data analysis; it reinforced the importance of coaching pedagogy and adaptability across different sports. I highly recommend the Hillcrest Strength and Conditioning program to any student looking for a hands-on, rigorous, tech-forward, and mentorship-rich professional environment.”

Kaiden Kulig (HHS Grad 22’)
Summer 24’ Intern
Currently: Attends Coker Univeristy where he plays lacrosse where he will graduate spring of 27’ with a Bachelors in Business with a Minor in Communications

“During the 2024 Summer I had a great experience interning under Coach Chester where I learned so much. It was great getting to revisit my high school after my freshman year at college and help coach Hillcrest athletes while also learning new things myself. Coach Chester was always happy to answer questions, provide feedback, and teach me proper form and techniques. I always felt comfortable at the gym. Overall it was a valuable experience that strengthened my passion for the gym and helped me prepare for future opportunities as a student athlete.”
