Does "summer learning" sound boring to your child? It shouldn't! ๐งช๐ป
The key to beating the "summer slide" is keeping the brain active through things they already love. STEM activities are the perfect way to sneak in math and science while theyโre busy building, creating, and experimenting.
From calculating measurements for slime to understanding geometry through bridge building, hands-on learning makes concepts stick!

Math Tips for Parents: Help Your Child โSeeโ Groups
One of the best ways to build strong mental math skills is to help children see numbers in groups, especially groups of 10, multiples of 10, and powers of 10.
Try asking questions like:
โ7 and how much more make 10?โ
โ70 and how much more make 100?โ
โHow far is it from 6 to 10?โ
โHow far is it from 678 to 1,000?โ
โHow many 10s are in 200?โ
โHow many 4-person teams can you make out of 20 kids?โ
โHow much is 5, four times?โ
These questions encourage children to think flexibly about numbers, rather than only memorizing procedures. When students can recognize groups, break numbers apart, and build toward 10, 100, or 1,000, etc., they develop the foundations for faster and more confident mental math.
At Mathnasium of Simi Hills, we help students strengthen number sense step by step, so math starts to feel more natural and less intimidating.

Research shows that math skills are often the hardest hit by "summer learning loss." ๐๐ง
The good news? It only takes a little bit of consistent practice to keep those skills fresh. Whether itโs playing a game of chess or spending a few hours a week with our expert instructors, keeping math "in the mix" makes a world of difference come September.

That second checkmark on the list is our favorite. Math isn't just about being "right", it's about having the tools and the confidence to keep going when things get tough.
Let's use this summer to turn "I can't" into "I get it now!" ๐๐ช

Why "Low-Pressure" leads to high results: ๐
When students aren't afraid to make mistakes, they take bigger risks in their learning. This summer, weโre focusing on:
โ
Engagement: Turning "boredom" into breakthrough moments.
โ
Confidence: Building the skills they need for a head start in the fall.
โ
Personalization: Because no two students (or summer plans) are the same.
Give your student the gift of a confidence-building summer! ๐๏ธ Our team (and our favorite surfing cherry ๐) is ready to help them catch the wave to success.

Does your student "know it" for the test, but forget it by the next week? ๐ค
Thatโs the difference between memorization and true understanding. Summer is the perfect time to slow down and fill in those conceptual gaps so that math finally clicks.
When the "why" becomes clear, the "how" becomes easy! ๐
