Simi Institute for Careers & Education - SICE The Seekers of Simi Institute are part of the Simi Valley Unified School District. On the Job Training (OJT) helps ready our students for employment.

Simi Institute for Careers and Education enrolls more than 4,000 students a year, about half of whom are pursuing a wide variety of Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. We offer high school diploma, English as a second language and a wide range of Career Technical Education programs. Our CTE programs include Computer, Cosmetology, Manufacturing and Medical career preparation courses. Many of our CTE programs include Internships, Externships and Apprenticeships. We are proud partner of Strong Workforce Apprenticeship Group (SWAG) and many local medical facilities and hospitals. Join our Seeker family. Last week our ESL students visited Cosmetology, Machining, Medical Assistant, Upholstery, Welding, and other classrooms to learn about the career training opportunities right here on our campus.

We are proud to offer ESL-IET (Integrated Education & Training) programs for both Machine Technology and Medical Assistant so that advanced ESL students can learn a trade while also receiving language support.

Sew cute! 🧵 Mary Rayta, Academic Studies Instructional Assistant, brought her childhood Nauga dolls, made from the original Naugahyde brand fabric, to our Upholstery class in search of a little mending.

Upholstery student, Sheri Castorena, took on the task and gave these sweet Nauga dolls a little TLC.

The Nauga monster is a fictional corporate mascot created in the 1960s to promote Naugahyde, a brand of synthetic vinyl fabric.

Hailing from Sacramento, Mona makes the six hour drive down each week to take our Upholstery class. Mona has been super commuting to Ventura County for more than five years as Simi Institute boasts one of the only Upholstery programs in the entire state. To make the weekly journey worth the miles, Mona will often take on upholstery jobs from her peers in the Sacramento area and bring them to class to work on.

Currently, Mona’s recovering armchairs in a soft, cream linen fabric for a local psychiatrist looking to add calming vibes to her practice. Aside from working on furniture, Mona also enjoys automotive design and has even reupholstered the interior of her family’s ‘41 Chevy.

Joanna, a Simi Institute Esthetician grad, joins us each week from Santa Barbara. She learned about this hands-on training program two years ago while flipping through our school catalog and made the commitment to drive down three days a week to learn from master upholsterer and instructor, Louis Almeida.

Joanna is currently working on reupholstering children’s chairs for a young family member.
