Hailing from Sacramento, Mona makes the six hour drive down each week to take our Upholstery class. Mona has been super commuting to Ventura County for more than five years as Simi Institute boasts one of the only Upholstery programs in the entire state. To make the weekly journey worth the miles, Mona will often take on upholstery jobs from her peers in the Sacramento area and bring them to class to work on.
Currently, Mona’s recovering armchairs in a soft, cream linen fabric for a local psychiatrist looking to add calming vibes to her practice. Aside from working on furniture, Mona also enjoys automotive design and has even reupholstered the interior of her family’s ‘41 Chevy.
Joanna, a Simi Institute Esthetician grad, joins us each week from Santa Barbara. She learned about this hands-on training program two years ago while flipping through our school catalog and made the commitment to drive down three days a week to learn from master upholsterer and instructor, Louis Almeida.
Joanna is currently working on reupholstering children’s chairs for a young family member.
