Did You Know? The Proposed Bond Would Address Aging School Roofs

While replacement of Silverton Middle School and construction of a new K-8 school are significant components of the proposed November 2026 bond, the proposal would also address critical facility needs at several of Silver Falls School District’s remaining buildings.

One of those needs is aging roofs.

Many school roofs across the District are at or near the end of their useful life and need repair or replacement. If approved, bond funds would help address priority roofing projects at several existing schools.

Replacing aging roofs is about more than fixing leaks. Keeping water out of buildings helps protect classrooms, building systems, and the District’s investment in its existing facilities and can help prevent water intrusion from creating larger and more expensive problems.

The proposed bond would provide funding to address these and other priority repairs identified through the District’s long-range facility planning process, alongside the larger proposed school construction projects.

The District’s existing bond is expiring, and the proposed bond is estimated to maintain the current bond tax rate of approximately $1.88 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

Maintaining our existing schools is an important part of the proposed bond plan - protecting the buildings our students and community rely on today and into the future.

Did You Know? The Proposed Bond Is Estimated to Maintain the Current Tax Rate.

Silver Falls School District is placing a Capital Improvement Bond on the November 2026 ballot.

Did You Know? A General Obligation Bond provides funding for major school construction

A General Obligation Bond provides funding for major school construction, renovation, and facility improvements that regular school funding cannot cover.

Bond funds are limited to long-term capital projects such as replacing or renovating aging school buildings, upgrading major building systems, and improving safety and security. They cannot be used for day-to-day operating expenses like teacher salaries, classroom supplies, or transportation.

If voters approve a bond, the District sells bonds to investors and uses those funds for the capital projects identified in the measure. By law, bond funds must be used for approved capital purposes. The District also plans to use a citizens’ oversight committee to provide additional transparency and accountability for how bond funds are spent.

We encourage our community to learn more, ask questions, and stay informed about the proposed November 2026 bond and the future of Silver Falls School District facilities.

The Silver Falls School Board has unanimously approved a resolution placing a capital improvement bond on the November 2026 ballot.

The proposed bond reflects the work of the District’s Long-Range Facilities Planning Committee and months of community input focused on addressing aging schools while making long-term investments in District facilities.

If approved by voters, the bond would provide approximately $87 million in local bond funding, along with $10.1 million in state matching funds, for $97 million in school improvements, while maintaining the current bond tax rate.

The proposed bond would:
âś… Replace the aging Silverton Middle School, including new construction and renovation of viable existing facilities.
✅ Construct a new rural K–8 school serving students from Central Howell, Evergreen and Pratum, preserving the rural K–8 model while replacing three aging school facilities.
âś… Complete high-priority repairs and improvements at remaining schools across the District.

The Board’s action means the decision now moves to Silver Falls School District voters in November. In the coming months, the District will continue sharing information about the bond measure on www.silverfallsschoolbond.org

A year ago, our focus was simple: stabilize our district's finances and build a sustainable path forward. Through careful planning, responsible budgeting, and some difficult decisions, we did exactly that, while protecting the educational opportunities our students deserve.

That work gave us something valuable: the ability to look ahead. This year, our SFSD community helped shape a new Strategic Plan and Long-Range Facilities Plan, walking through our buildings and identifying what our schools will need for years to come.

We want to thank everyone who helped get us here, and we look forward to sharing more of this important work with you, the community. 🧡
