Please join LC ALDF for a screening of “Humans and Other Animals” directed by on April 10th at 5:30 PST. From high-stakes investigations to profound philosophical ideas, this non-graphic film could fundamentally change how we see animals — including ourselves. Animal Law Week 2025 is over! Its culmination was last Thursday. In the morning, LC ALDF members headed down to Salem with to lobby for SB 80, a CAFO moratorium bill that would impact Oregon’s groundwater management areas.

In the evening, LC ALDF hosted an art reception on the law campus, an event celebrating the power of art to inspire a better world for animals and all else. 's wonderful keynote highlighted the importance of community, without which the evening would not have seen success. We’re to proud to announce that the event's silent auction, which featured pieces donated by participating artists, raised $665 for !

Our Board has immense gratitude for the many, many people who made the event possible. Here are just a few.

Six artists concerned with human-animal relationships displayed their work, coming from Portland, Seattle, and even as far as Colorado. showcased four large canvas paintings and kindly offered live paintings for attendees. Two photojournalists, and , showcased their moving images of animals both subjected to exploitation and safe in sanctuary. displayed her photographs which question the authenticity of the moments we share with animals, while put together an heart-warming gallery featuring many of Lighthouse's residents. , co-founder of , shared his striking prints which focus on predator-prey relationships and the contemporary crises of biodiversity and capitalism.

orchestrated a beautiful grazing table chockfull of vegan cheeses, provided tasty organic beverages, and our incredible LC ALDF Board organized and staffed the event.

The event would not have been possible without the support of , , Law Scholars for Change, and .

Without community, the art reception, Animal Law Week 2025, and advances in animal advocacy more broadly would not be possible. Thank you for being a part of ours!

Next week, please join the Lewis & Clark Law School ALDF Student Chapter in celebrating our annual Animal Law Week! There will be lunchtime speaker events exploring the labor organizing efforts of poultry workers with Magaly Licolli and the ethical quandary posed by the “predation problem” with Saylor Soinski, a lobbying opportunity with Food & Water Watch to support a CAFO moratorium in Oregon’s groundwater management areas (SB 80), an evening art reception featuring the wonderful Jo-Anne McArthur, and vegan food aplenty!

The public may attend the two lunchtime talks via Zoom, as well as the art reception. Event and registration details available at the link in our bio.

This week will feature guest speakers, volunteer events, and an art reception featuring award-winning photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur. Refreshments will be provided by local businesses, Vtopian Artisan Cheeses and Golden Age Kombucha.
