Fitness Fun Day is the largest fundraiser for the Sligo PTSA! In addition to being a fun, community-building day for Sligo, it is where most of the funding for the Sligo PTSA comes from!

Here is a list of many of the efforts that Fitness Fun Day supports:
Teacher Appreciation
Mini Grants for Teachers and Staff
Sligo Food Pantry
STEM Night
Spring Dance
Funding for each grade to supplement field trips
8th grade promotion activities such as the Picnic, Kings Dominion Trip and Promotion Ceremony
Advocacy on behalf of parents, teachers and students on issues such as the boundary study, program analysis and pedestrian safety
Sligo merchandise
Concessions at play, musical and talent show

Without your support, we won’t be able to fully fund these efforts!

Please register your child and ask family and friends to donate! We have fewer than 50 students who have created a page out of nearly 700 students! This is a team effort and we need everyone working together!

The Sligo PTSA supports a pantry at Sligo MS that serves families in our community in need of food and hygiene items. We will be fully set up in a dedicated space in the next week or so. If you’re able to send your child in with a donation, please do so. Below is a link from the Maryland Food Bank that gives an idea of needed items. If you are in need of food assistance, please reach out to Ms Diaz Tinoco at [email protected] (or any staff/faculty member) for more information.

Last night, we had an opportunity to highlight to the MCPS Superintendent our great school and to understand the upcoming changes in MCPS, specific to how they affect Sligo. Thank you to our wonderful community for showing up and showcasing to Dr. Taylor the amazing parents, teachers and students we have at Sligo Middle School! We hope that you got some questions answered and concerns addressed.

We want to congratulate 8th grader and Student Government President Zara Wehrli for confidently speaking last night about why she loves Sligo, asking the first question of Dr. Taylor and presenting him with our signature Sligo PJ bottoms!

With all of the burning topics we had to cover from the Woodward Boundary Study to the Regional Program Analysis to the Capital Improvements and upcoming changes to Sligo, we acknowledge that we did not get all of the questions answered! We will compile all of the questions submitted on the Google Form and index cards from last night. Dr. Taylor has agreed to answer all of our questions in writing and we will provide that to the community as soon as we have it! We also took copious notes and will send those out to our community!

The theme that we heard a lot last night from Dr. Taylor was advocacy! MCPS and the Board of Education is interested in hearing from our school community about how these changes will affect us. They are looking for well-reasoned positions to help them make important decisions about the future of Sligo and other Silver Spring schools. This is our opportunity to make our voices heard!

Fitness Fun Day, the largest fundraiser for the Sligo PTSA, is coming up on Friday, November 7!

What is Fitness Fun Day?
Fitness Fun Day is a fun, community-building day at Sligo and the PTSA’s largest fundraiser! During their PE/Health periods, students will earn points for their grade! Students will be able to earn points by dancing, running, shooting basketballs, taking shots on a soccer goal, or playing tug-o-war! The points are tallied at the end of the day and the class that wins earns a fun party! Each student will receive a Sligo t-shirt designed by a student and have a fun day at school!

We are also asking families to set up a fundraising page and ask friends and family to donate to Sligo PTSA! Setting up the page only takes 5 minutes and all the money raised goes to support the Sligo PTSA!

Where does the money go?
The Sligo PTSA works hard to advocate for the needs of parents, teachers and students of Sligo Middle School! We support the STEM Night and the Sligo Spring Dance, among other events. We appreciate our teachers with lunches, dinners and treats to remind them how important they are to our children! We give mini grants to teachers to supplement their budget. We keep our finger on the pulse of the MCPS changes that are important to our community. We support the Sligo Food Pantry which provides non-perishable items and toiletries to Sligo Families in need. This is just a glimpse of what the Sligo PTSA does each year! We can only accomplish all of this with the financial support of our community!

What can I do to help?

Set up a Givebacks fundraising page and raise money for our school!

We have had a great week celebrating our amazing Sligo staff and teachers! They have been so appreciative of the PTSA’s generosity!

I’m happy to report that ALL of the items from the Amazon Wish List were purchased for the Sligo staff! Thank you all so much for supporting our school! And the teachers had a great time “shopping” for school supplies, wipes, tissues, and snacks! I am sorry to say that I forgot to take a picture of the items laid out and the staff shopping! Oops! But just know that they walked out of their first meeting of the week on Monday morning to find tables full of items for them to start off the school year right!

Today we hosted a Staff lunch! We had a huge spread of salads, sandwiches, bread, chips and cookies from Panera! The teachers and staff really enjoyed the variety of food! And they definitely were giving us lots of thanks! So, I pass that thanks on to you as members of the PTSA!
