A note from teacher Natasha:
The children are becoming more and more daring with the swings as they grow older. As they do this, I find myself constantly wavering between trusting that the children know their own limits and my own fear of what “might happen”. This fear is a tricky one as it is grounded both in experience and imagination. It is under this dissonance that we so often have to make a decision as to how to move forward. What is important is that we keep the imagined under check so that we do not bring our own anxieties or traumas to the children. It is a powerful concept to ponder.

The children discovered the joy of cracking the rocks with a hammer, first digging in the sand box for the rocks, then cracking them to find out how they look inside! Some of the rocks were very glittery inside and the children were delighted to show and share them with their friends. 🪨 🔨 ✨

Show and tell has been a big success, and it has been so sweet getting to know the children in this way and seeing what they chose to share. On this day, one child decided to bring a piece of computer paper for everyone, and showed them how to build a paper airplane. They all then spent about an hour flying them and had so much fun in the process.

The main activity lately seems to be mulberry picking. Each day, the children become more and more creative in how they attain the precious purple fruit! The Willow class also shared - "this past week we discovered not only a mulberry tree in our class, but also a wild cherry tree. Plus, our raspberry bushes gave us one raspberry!" 🌳

Now that the garden has been producing plenty of herbs, edible flowers and vegetables, it has been a bountiful contributor to each classroom's snack menu. In the Oak class, Teacher Brigitte has been with the children to our garden at least 3-4 times a week, where the children helped to harvest pansies, chives, parsley and kale for their salad. In the Willow class, plenty of radish were harvested to share!🌱 🌿 🥬

Parents, Emma and Greg, offered to install a handwashing system called a "Tippy Tappy" in the Oak classroom. The children push a pedal with their feet to make a container (attached by a string) tip over. This allows water to flow out and onto their soapy hands. It is quite ingenious and helps the children see how much water is being used! 💦 🧼 🙌 🌳

Last week we celebrated the incredible teachers who bring warmth, patience, and care to our school each and every day. From tending to the rhythms of the classroom to nurturing wonder, imagination, and meaningful connection, our teachers give so much of themselves to the children and families in our community. We are deeply grateful for the love and dedication they bring to their work.
A heartfelt thank you as well to our wonderful Parent Circle for helping make this week so special. From the delicious home-baked treats to the thoughtful lunch catered by , your generosity and care have made our teachers and staff feel truly appreciated and supported.
It takes a community to create the kind of loving environment we strive for each day, and we are so thankful for ours. 💛🌿
