I was looking through some old papers regarding domestic violence and found my notes from a legislative briefing on Capitol Hill in 2004. The following quotations are of the founders of VAWA. (The Violence Against Women Act. )

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)- “America’s commitment to personal freedom falls short when women and children) are not safe in their own homes.”

Senator Joe Biden (D-Delaware)-
“We are doing God’s work…this has always been a ground-up initiative.”

Where is VAWA now? We must not forget the lessons of the past. We must remember our experiences with abuse and do not repeat them!

Workplace violence awareness month starts April 1. What are you doing to bring attention to this problem and its solutions?

Remember that violence prevention is everybody’s business! Practice a “zero-tolerance” mentality relative to violence and abuse. Develop cultural awareness and education about “bystander intervention.” Become an “empowered bystander.” Don’t be a part of the problem by doing nothing! Become involved with community advocates about the violence problem and find out what you can do to help prevent it. Volunteer to serve at violence-prevention events, and donate funds to support them. Do social media awareness and education.
