We invite artists, scholars, and researchers from around the world to participate in the International Symposium for Visual Culture & Exhibition 2026.

The symposium brings together a global community of artists, researchers, and academics in vibrant downtown Silver Spring, adjacent to Washington, DC, USA. The symposium and popup show will be hosted by Montgomery College, while the international exhibition will take place at the CICA Museum in Korea. These events are organized in collaboration with the CICA Museum and the Visual and Performing Arts Department of Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring.

ISVC serves as an international platform for diverse and critical perspectives on visual culture. Through this program, we aim to build a global network of researchers, artists, and creators and audiences of visual culture, fostering critical discourse and a deeper understanding of visual culture worldwide.

Participating artists and researchers will be featured in the publication New Media Art 2027, to be released in full-color paperback in December 2026 by CICA Press. Contributions may include English texts (e.g., interviews, essays, poetry), drawings, and images introducing the artist’s work.

Franxx is a pop diva extraordinaire, legendary DJ, visionary promoter, captivating diva, and true icon whose artistry and presence have always inspired and united us all. Her spirited and boundless inversion of pop mechanics across the wide genre-defiant architecture of experimental hard dance - Franxx’s signature “XuntCore” sound - is inspired, high energy, dynamic, passionate, vulnerable, and limitless.

Franxx was born and raised in a first-generation immigrant family whose Central American culture has directly influenced the artist’s POV. Although she was born and raised in Northern Virginia, her dedication to honor the values of her upbringing and culture infused with all the knowledge and experience she continues to seek out is what makes Franxx’s perspective completely one of a kind.

Central to her desire for freedom is the passion for creating spaces where all q***r people feel safe and inspired to be free. Franxx is the founder of XUNT, Washington DC’s trans-centric hardcore dance party, as well as an organizer and resident DJ of 140+/FWB - THE fixture of DC’s Hardcore and Club scene. This XUNT icon’s range in slayage is what continues to cement her as one of the most in-demand performers in Washington DC and beyond.
