Don't miss Sutradhar Dance Company this Sunday at 3:30pm in Wheaton for the premier of Ragas of Dawn!
01/08/2026
On January 18th, Sutradhar presents ‘Ragas of Dawn’: a unique artistic collaboration that merges streams of music and philosophical traditions: from Hindustani bansuri flute, Khayal singing, and Iranian folksong, to Carnatic violin and Western guitar. In the footwork of Kuchipudi dance rhythms framed in ragas of morning light and dusk shadows, these seemingly distinct forms converge at a single, universal point of understanding, or the Sanskrit term ‘bindu’.
We look at Rābiʼa al-ʼAdawiyya’s (رابعة العدوية القيسية; c. 716 – 801 CE), one of the earliest Sufi women mystics, call to life and joy “Forget your voice, sing! Forget your feet, dance! Forget your life, live! Forget yourself and be!” as inspiration.

On this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to support the Sutradhar Institute of Dance and Related Arts.
For more than four decades, Sutradhar has introduced dance as a transformative journey. Rooted in the classical Kuchipudi tradition, our approach integrates yoga, creative writing, storytelling, martial arts, and music—honoring every link in the chain of Indian aesthetic practice. We believe dance is not just performance, but a bridge: connecting cultures, nurturing identity, and empowering individuals of all ages.
Please consider making a donation today. Every gift—large or small—makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for being part of our artistic family and for believing in the power of culture, creativity, and community.
