A Special Friday Concert at The Hearth 🎶

Hello friends,

We have an unexpected treat to share with you this week.

This Friday, September 4 at 5:00 PM, The Hearth will welcome jongleur, an extraordinary voice and percussion duo featuring Julia Anne Cordani and James Koo, for a special joint benefit concert.

Their work is unlike a traditional concert.

jongleur creates immersive spiritual soundscapes through voice, percussion, improvisation, electronics, and ritual-inspired performance. Their concerts can be experienced in many ways: as music, as meditation, as prayer, or simply as a chance to listen deeply.

Julia Anne Cordani is a vocal artist whose work draws inspiration from figures on the margins of Christian theology and mysticism. Percussionist James Koo brings influences from traditional Chinese percussion, ritual practice, and contemporary experimental music. Together, they create performances that weave ancient spiritual traditions with modern sound.

It promises to be a beautiful and unusual afternoon.

So… what is your 10–12 year old doing on Monday? 👀

Because we've got a pretty good plan.

🎭 Theatre.

😂 Improv.

🎨 Characters and storytelling.

🍲 Cooking.

❤️ Lunch together.

🤝 New friends.

And six whole hours in which nobody has to ask, "Can I have the Wi-Fi password?"

Our Labor Day Creative Retreat is Monday, September 7 at The Hearth.

The idea is simple:

The school year is finding its rhythm.

Schedules are settling.

And somewhere in all of that structure, young imaginations still need somewhere to wander.

Somewhere to make the weird character.

Try the ridiculous idea.

Cook something they've never cooked.

Meet someone new.

Stand up and discover, "Wait. I can DO this."

That's what I'm interested in creating at TheActrix Studio this fall.

Not simply more things to put on a child's calendar.

**Places where they can become more fully themselves.**

Sometimes beginning doesn't mean rushing through the door.

Sometimes it means making sure the right people have had time to find it.

Our new AfterSchool TheActrix Youth Improv Performance Group was originally scheduled to begin September 1, but this is an ensemble program, and an ensemble needs an ensemble! 🎭

We need a minimum of 6 young performers to begin.

So rather than launch before the group is ready, we're going to keep enrollment open throughout September and give this new program room to find its people.

Ages 13+
Tuesdays + Thursdays
3:30–5:30 PM
The Hearth

Once our ensemble is gathered, Hallie Harris will lead them through improv, character, scene work and original creation, with the goal of developing their own holiday performance for The Hearth Holiday Festival at the end of the semester.

No scramble.

No pretending four chairs are six. 😉

There is something wonderful about watching a child discover that other people are interested in what they have to say.

Not because they're perfect.

Not because they performed flawlessly.

Because they made something.

And someone showed up to witness it.

That's one of the reasons I love theatre education so much.

It gives kids opportunities to be seen while they're still becoming.

And he's walking into a television studio where practically everyone has a motive.

She’s a budding actress who changed her name so that it will
become a household word. She’s been pestering Sneer to give her a network show, but he’s procrastinated. Now, she wants him to fire Lizzie and make her the star of the sitcom.

She won’t take “no” for an answer, and has an up close and personal way of getting Sneer to do what she asks for.

🎬 TWO MEN. TWO VERY DIFFERENT KINDS OF TROUBLE.
Let's talk about two of the gentlemen you'll meet in Murder Is on the Air...

⭐ Zack LaPaine (played by David B W Smith)

He's the man behind Vegitol, the tonic that supposedly boosts your fatigued corpuscles. He's a health nut, an exercise enthusiast, and very proud of the ratings The Lizzie Show brings to his product.
He is considerably less enthusiastic about Norman Sneer's waistline.

😂

And then there's...

⭐ Ricardo Montalado (played by Christophe Maso - author)

Movie star.

Heartthrob.

Swashbuckler.

Ladies love him.

Men are irritated by him.

And comedy?

Let's just say it's not exactly his strongest suit.

These two characters are going to bring a LOT of personality to our television studio.

And I have a feeling they're going to make you laugh.
