Exploring Our New Neighborhood! 🌿🏫💧

This Friday, our middle school students spent the day getting to know the incredible places and resources surrounding our new school building.

Students rotated through Guadalupe Montessori School, the Silva Creek Botanical Garden, and the historic Waterworks Building, learning more about each location and the important role it plays in our community.

At Guadalupe Montessori, students learned more about where their school lunches come from and the people who work hard to prepare them. At the Botanical Gardens, students explored native plants, participated in a scavenger hunt and plant identification activities, and learned about the garden's connection to Aldo's history. At the Waterworks Building, students explored a piece of Silver City's history and learned more about the importance of preserving and appreciating the places that tell the story of our community.

But this day was about more than just visiting new places.

Now that Aldo has a new home, we want our students to understand the neighborhood around them and recognize that they are part of it. These places are now right outside our doors, and many of them will become spaces our students visit and utilize throughout the school year. Learning how to respectfully explore, appreciate, and care for these spaces is an important part of becoming good neighbors.

This is also why Fridays are such an important part of the Aldo experience. Our Experiential Education Fridays give students the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom—to explore our community, connect with local resources and organizations, learn from the people around us, and discover new interests and passions.

We are so excited about all the opportunities our new location will bring and can't wait to continue exploring our new neighborhood together!

Learning doesn't just happen inside the classroom. Sometimes, you have to step outside and see where it can take you.

We are excited to invite our Aldo Leopold families, alumni, friends, and members of the Silver City community to join us as we celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for Aldo Leopold Public Charter School!

Our new home at the Jose Barrios campus has a long and important history in our community. We are grateful to be able to become part of that history while creating a new chapter of our own.

Please join us for our Opening Celebration and Open House! Come see our new school, meet our staff, visit classrooms, and celebrate the beginning of the 2026–2027 school year with us.

Meet the Teacher: Ms. Brie!

We're excited to introduce Brie, the newest addition to our 6th Grade Team at Aldo Leopold Public Charter School!

This year, our 6th graders will have two teachers working together to create an engaging and well-rounded middle school experience. Joshua Rex will be teaching Math and Science, while Brie will be teaching Language Arts and World History. We are so excited to have Brie joining Joshua and our 6th grade students!

Brie was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and graduated from Northern Arizona University. She and her husband, Trevor, have called Silver City home for the past five years, where they live with their son, Joseph, and their red heeler, Ruby.

Brie has worked with students from kindergarten through 12th grade, but sixth grade has always been her favorite! She loves the imagination, curiosity, and capability of 11- and 12-year-olds and is excited to be part of this important stage in their journey into middle school.

So, what can students expect in Brie's classroom?

A challenge...and the unexpected.

Outside of school, Brie is also the "Brie" behind Breezeway Gardens, the local microgreens and produce business you may have seen at the Silver City Food Co-op!

Brie is excited to join the Aldo Leopold faculty and staff and can't wait to bring all the ideas she's been dreaming up this summer into her classroom. We can't wait to see them come to life, either!

Welcome to Aldo Leopold, Brie! We are so excited to have you join the team!

When you have a whole fleet of mountain bikes to move…why not ride them there?!

Our Mountain Bike Team/Club coaches came up with the perfect way to get our bikes from the old building to our new campus—they organized a community group ride!

Students, families, and community members came together to ride the bikes across town and into their new home. What could have been a logistical challenge turned into a fun afternoon of riding, community, and getting ready for an exciting new school year.

We love seeing our Aldo Leopold community come together in creative ways to support our students!

Interested in joining the Mountain Bike Team/Club? Students 10 years old and up are welcome to learn more about the team.

Want to help coach or get involved? Contact Nate Shay through the school front desk for more information!

ALCS Representing New Mexico on the National Stage!

After earning 1st place at the New Mexico Envirothon, Aldo Leopold Charter School's high school Envirothon team traveled to Mississippi to compete in the National Conservation Foundation Envirothon, joining teams from across the United States and Canada.

The week was filled with incredible experiences beyond the competition itself. Students participated in the Opening Ceremony, explored the local community, attended a trading session with teams from other states and provinces, completed field training, tackled the challenging field tests, visited a college and career fair, and spent time preparing for their oral presentation.

More than just a competition, the National Envirothon gives students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of natural resources, connect with peers who share their passion for the environment, and experience what it's like to represent their state on a national level.

Congratulations to our Envirothon team for all of their hard work and dedication! We are so proud of the way they represented Aldo Leopold Public Charter School and New Mexico. 💚
