Marian Valle just began an exchange program and is at with the goal of obtaining a dual degree — a bachelor’s in business from this American university as well as a business degree from her school in Sonora, Mexico. “Since I was a little kid, I always dreamed of having my own company and traveling the world,” Valle said.

Valle and just one other student applied for the competitive opportunity this year, and they were selected based on their grades, their resumes, and their ability to speak English. She lives on campus and appreciates all the social student life events. “In Mexico, it’s not that way,” Valle said.

Rita Escalante is in her second week of a three-semester program that will enable her to earn double degrees—one from her home institution, University of Sonora, and one from the WNMU School of Business. It’s a prospect made possible through a memorandum of understanding that enables Sonoran students to complete their studies at a U.S-accredited university, specifically .

The marketing student hopes to spend her career in the United States. “Marketing here and in Mexico is very different,” she said.

Along with two of her SoyUnison peers, Rita is getting adjusted to life on campus and settling in for the experience. “I’m trying to make my best out of this opportunity,” she said.

WNMU School of Business offers dual degrees and student exchange programs as a result of signed memorandums of understanding with University of Sonora, Upr Mayagüez, Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua, and Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla.

The agreement with SoyUnison allows students to complete a marketing degree at University of Sonora along with a management or a marketing degree at WNMU, which graduated four students from this program last year. And this fall, three more began an exchange. Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more about the participants, who are pictured here.
