Reins & Reading at Algun Dia Ranch

Three months already?! 🐴💛 It’s hard to believe our little Enzo will be 3 months old on Sunday.

Watching him grow has been such a joy. He greets every new challenge with curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to learn. From haltering and leading to grooming, backing up, yielding his hindquarters, and making friends across the fence, he takes it all in stride.

One of the sweetest parts of his journey has been sharing it with our Reins & Reading kids. Week after week, they’ve helped brush him, handle him gently, and teach him what it means to be a good horse citizen. In return, Enzo has shown them trust, patience, and the magic that happens when kids and horses learn together.

We’re raising a foal… but in many ways, this amazing little community is helping raise him too. And we couldn’t be more grateful. ❤️

Week 3 at Reins & Reading was full of growth, courage, and so many proud moments! 🐴📚💛

This week our readers explored Magic E, sorted word herds, and strengthened their reading skills while continuing to build confidence with their equine partners. We watched children tackle challenging words, step into leadership roles with horses of all sizes, and discover that they’re capable of more than they imagined.

One of my favorite things to witness is the confidence that grows alongside the learning. Whether it’s moving from a mini horse to a full-size horse, sounding out a tricky word, or guiding a 1,000-pound partner with calm, clear communication, every small victory matters.

The horses are amazing teachers, the kids are working incredibly hard, and I couldn’t be prouder of all they’re accomplishing. I can’t wait to see what Week 4 brings! ✨🐴📖

What a fantastic week at Reins & Reading! ☀️📚🐴

The New Mexico heat has definitely been reminding us that summer is here—we’ve had some days where we were nearly melting! Thankfully, sprinklers, laughter, and popsicles came to the rescue and helped keep everyone cool. 💦🍦

But beyond the fun, something even more exciting has been happening. Our young readers are building confidence, strengthening their word and sound recognition skills, and becoming more willing to take chances when they encounter something challenging. It’s wonderful to watch children go from “I’m not sure I can do this” to eagerly giving it a try.

The horses continue to be amazing teachers, helping create a supportive environment where learning feels safe, fun, and rewarding. Every small success is worth celebrating, and this week was full of them!

One of my favorite things about this ranch… Every animal here has a story. Montana teaches patience. Sweetie teaches kindness. Enzo reminds us to be curious and brave enough to try new things. Even the goats teach us something about slowing down and enjoying the moment. When children visit Reins & Reading, they aren't just meeting animals—they're building relationships, gaining confidence, and discovering strengths they didn't know they had. And sometimes, the best lessons happen without a single word being spoken. ❤️🐴📚

This week was filled with smiles, curiosity, courage, and connection. The children were thoughtful, engaged, and willing to try new things, and our horses were incredible partners every step of the way.

One of my favorite things about this program is watching confidence begin to grow—sometimes in big ways, and sometimes in the quiet moments between a child and a horse.

I’m so grateful for these amazing kids, supportive families, and the horses who make it all possible. I can’t wait to see what the coming weeks bring. ❤️
