As we continue sorting through items from Jose Barrios Elementary, we found a limited number of legacy window decals and a larger count of commemorative license plates. โ€œJose Barrios Elementary Where Everyone Makes A Difference!โ€ These items will be available for former students, staff, families, and community members to pick up at the Silver Consolidated Schools Central Office (2801 N. Swan Street).

To give as many people as possible an opportunity to receive one, please limit your selection to one item per person/car while supplies last. Items are on a first-come, first-served basis. We will not be able to hold or reserve items. Once theyโ€™re gone, theyโ€™re gone! Thank you for helping us preserve and celebrate a special part of Jose Barrios history.

๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿˆ Are You Ready For Some Football?!? Not quite yetโ€ฆ but weโ€™re getting closer. Tonight, the Fighting Colts hosted a 3-Way 7-on-7 and Lineman Challenge with Cobre and Hot Springs. It was another opportunity for our athletes to compete, improve, and continue building toward the fall season. The competition was good. And for a few hours, it felt a little more like football season. Go Fighting Colts! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค

NMAA ELIGIBILITY CHANGES TO GO INTO EFFECT FOR 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

Starting with the 2026-2027 school year, students may now transfer schools without penalty and be immediately eligible at the school of their choice on a first transfer (home school/charter school statutes still apply as do recruitment and undue influence rules). The measure is one of several changes to Section 6 of the NMAA Handbook. Member schools finalized the changes with a majority count of 67-60 in a referenda vote, after being approved by the NMAA Commission and NMAA Board of Directors.

"This change reflects the membership's desire to provide students and families with greater flexibility while maintaining the safeguards that protect the integrity of interscholastic activities," said NMAA Executive Director Dusty Young. "The transfer process has been one of the most discussed topics among our schools in recent years, and this adjustment creates a pathway for students making their first transfer. At the same time, our recruitment, undue influence, and home school and charter school regulations remain firmly in place to ensure a fair and equitable competitive environment for all member schools."

Today our country recognizes Juneteenth as a federal holiday to commemorate the end of slavery. The flag is a symbol of freedom, hope, and the resilience of Black Americans. The red, white, and blue colors remind us that Black History is American History. The center star represents Texas, where Juneteenth began, and the freedom of Black Americans across the nation. The starburst symbolizes a new beginning, while a curved horizon reflects hope and new possibilities. The date, June 19, 1865, marks the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
