Myanmar has entered its sixth year of civil war, and hostilities have only intensified in the past nine months since the last elections.

"By the end of 2025, an estimated 21.9 million people in Myanmar were in need of humanitarian assistance, including 15.4 in need of protection among whom 6.9 million (are) children," a recent ReliefWeb analysis reads. "Internal displacement rose to roughly to 3.7 million among whom around 40% are children, with nearly 200,000 more having fled to neighboring countries since the 2021. Communities continue to face overlapping crises: conflict, displacement, movement and humanitarian access restrictions, food insecurity, inflation, livelihood collapse, and eroding access to essential services. Women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups continued to experience disproportionate impacts across all protection risks."

Pray for Myanmar. Pray that the conflict ends and that the people who live here can go about their lives in safety. And pray for Earth Mission, that we can grow and serve the people here amid the dangers of war.

We are changing the medical landscape of rural Myanmar.

Ten years ago, our inaugural class of Physicians Associate students began their studies with Earth Mission. Many of those former students are now serving their home villages as medical professionals.

Naw Zu Zae Nar was a member of our second class of PA students. Now, she's a PA, she's the clinician in charge of a rural clinic, and she's nearly completed a year of our Surgical PA Program.

Naw Zu Zae Nar dreamed of becoming a medical professional since childhood. "I always wanted to bring comfort to people who were sick," she said. "Growing up in a rural area where health care was limited, I saw how difficult it was for people to receive the care they needed.

"Nine years later, I find myself serving in a small local clinic that has grown into an important referral center for the surrounding area. (It) was once a small clinic, but the number of patients and the complexity of cases have steadily increased. We now see more inpatients, pregnant women coming for delivery. Many people face serious challenges in accessing city hospitals because of transportation difficulties, security concerns, and the high cost of medical care and medicine. Patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes may need regular follow-up every two weeks, but traveling to a larger hospital can be expensive and difficult. For many, the local clinic is the only practical option, especially because much of our care is provided free of charge.

"When I look back over these nine years, I can see that this journey has been possible because of God's grace. I have witnessed tremendous growth in both the PA Program and Raintree Clinic, where I was trained.

"I will serve with what you have given me, and I will continue to improve myself in the field where God has placed me."

Earth Mission is bringing health care and healthcare education to rural Myanmar, student by student and patient by patient.

Running a hospital in rural Myanmar requires so much more than staffing a clinic and operating theater. We're maintaining a full-fledged community, and one of our basic needs is sufficient food. So it was a blow when a disease spreading in our local area wiped out our herd of 10 pigs.

The pigs were an important part of our campus food system and our efforts to be self-sufficient. Burying them was difficult for the community, especially after the time and care we'd put into raising them. We hope to gradually rebuild our livestock and continue strengthening food production for Raintree Clinic.

"And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Especially in the later years of the PA program, many of our students' tests are skills-based. Our Year 3 PA students recently had a practical lab exam on staining TB slides, malaria smears, and blood films, as well as microscopy on acid-fast bacilli, white blood cell total and differential, malaria smear, and platelet count.

In mid-September, our Thai foundation donated rice and other dry food supplies to Ban Mae Top Tai School, a local primary school with 58 students and seven staff. They welcomed our team warmly. We're always glad to support our Thai community's students and educators!

We have an update on the premature baby we posted about at the beginning of September. Baby Prayer Moo is no longer in intensive care. She's breastfeeding, her umbilical IV is out, and we're preparing her to go home.

Her survival is a huge success; she was born weighing just 2.9 pounds, and lost 0.7 pounds after birth. At a cooler time of year, she might not have survived in the cold air. Prayer Moo was up to 3.5 pounds at nearly a month old, and she keeps on getting bigger.
