JBU Construction Management Seniors made a strong showing in the Regional Associated Schools of Construction (ASC)/TEXO Student Competition in Feb by placing in all three Divisions of the Competition. JBU CM Seniors placed 2nd in the Heavy Civil Division, 3rd in the Commercial Division, and 2nd in the Design Build Division. This is the second time we have placed in all three Divisions and the highest we have placed in the Design Build Division.

JBU Construction Management placed 1st in the American Institute of Constructors (AIC) Ethics Competition held on March 23 in a virtual competition, defeating the other finalist teams from Texas A&M and University of North Florida. This is the 5th time in a row that JBU CM teams have won the competition. JBU’s team presented on various ethical and industry concerns to a panel of industry leaders from around the country. These ethical issues tied back to a given case study that was based on actual industry events.

The competition was open to all accredited schools of construction management in the United States. The JBU team qualified for the event by submitting an initial response paper and then competed against 2 teams in the final presentation.

On Monday, Feb 22, JBU Construction Management Seniors made a strong showing in the Regional ASC/TEXO Student Competition by placing in all three Divisions of the Competition. This is an annual student competition between CM programs in our region.

Normally, the Competition begins at the home school with final presentations in Dallas, Texas. This year the presentation portion of the Competition was done virtually. JBU CM Seniors placed 1st in the Heavy Civil Division, 3rd in the Commercial Division, and 3rd in the Design Build Division. This is the first time we have placed in all three categories and the first time in 13 years we have placed in the
Design Build Division. ​Additionally, several of our students won awards for presentations and speaking. Marc Woods and Zach Ertel
placed as Best Presenters for the Heavy Civil Division (2nd and 3rd, respectively) and Matt Bell placed 3rd Best Presenter for the Design
Build Division, and Austin Conner and Kyle Beardsley took 1st and 3rd, respectively, in the Impromptu Speech Competition.

On February 24th, JBU Construction Management Seniors took 2nd place in both the Commercial and Heavy Civil Divisions of the Regional ASC/TEXO Student Competition in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, congratulations to Cameron Crawford and Brock Ringel on received Best Presenter Awards and to Brock Ringel, who took first in the Impromptu Speech Competition.🏅

JBU Construction Management Dept held their Spring Company Day on Feb 28, with ten construction companies attending to meet and interview construction students for internships and employment after graduation. This is part of the reason that JBU CM grads have 90+% placement rate with starting salaries from $55K to $63K, and 80+% summer hire rate for construction internships, with great salaries and opportunities for growth and development. JBU CM Grads are well respected by the construction industry and the opportunities for professional construction managers are outstanding. Our CM program prepares individuals to enter the professional construction world and make an impact.

Seven JBU Construction Management students recently attended the National Association of Women in Construction NWA Chapter Breakfast & Blueprints event. The event was held at the Hight Jackson office in Rogers, Arkansas. Gail Shepherd, Partner with Hight Jackson, led a discussion on how construction drawings work and Cori Miller, with Crossland Construction, directed an interactive blueprint reading workshop.

NAWIC is an association for women employed in the construction industry. NAWIC helps to advance the causes of all women in construction, from tradeswomen to business owners. The goal of NAWIC is to be the association committed to championing women to impact the direction of the construction industry. NAWIC provides education, community and advocacy for women its core purpose is to strengthen and amplify the success of women in the construction industry.

The event allowed for an excellent networking opportunity and students felt that the workshop was relevant, allowing them use the skills they have learned to complete their team blueprint exercise.
