Quinn Kelm won a state championship in Super Smash Bros. this spring with . This fall he starts at , studying Business of Gaming and Esports, and plans to compete for their varsity team.

This month, across 3 big days, 40 coaches joined the TAEL admin team and our 2026-2027 partners for "TAEL Unlocked", and then a room full of educators became the very first NAECAD Level 1 Certified esports coaches in the state of Tennessee.

Congratulations to Russell Prater, Jaxon Stringer, Eric Harvey, Kate Morris, Elvia Klym, Jeremy Hanks, Johnathan O'Neill, Taylor McCollister, and Robert Baltz. From West Carroll to Williamson, Warren to Wilson to Clarksville-Montgomery, this group represents the entire state, and their students are about to feel the difference.

A huge thank you to Eric Harvey and Williamson County Schools for hosting the first TAEL/WCS Esports Coach Academy at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center in Franklin, and to Connor Alne, Executive Director of NAECAD, who traveled from Kansas City to certify our coaches in person. 12 PD hours, a national certification, and a 2026-2027 season structure built by the coaches themselves.

And to the partners standing with Tennessee students this season: Stay Plugged In, NAECAD, Regadget, Cleverlike Studios, Inc. Studios, and Emerge Apparel. Thank you for believing in what our students can do.

📢 CALL TO ALL TENNESSEE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

The Tennessee Academic Esports League (TAEL) is naming its Founding Pillars, and we are inviting every college and university in the state to apply.

TAEL is a statewide pathway that prepares students, from elementary school onward, for college or a career through esports, aligned to academic standards, industry certifications, and dual enrollment. The students in our league are the students your campus wants to enroll and the talent your region needs. TAEL is your pipeline.

Only three Founding Pillar seats exist, one for each Grand Division: East, Middle, and West. Each seat is permanent, regionally exclusive, and open to any accredited Tennessee institution, whether a university or a community college. The strongest proposal in each division earns the seat.

Proposals are due August 21, 2026. Founding Pillars are announced September 11, 2026.
