OK-just figured out we are at a low/low tide, full moon. A boatetbmentioned that they were out Friday. So seems there is still boatable waters. But, position is still clear....Hope y'all get some heavy rains soon.

So, our girl is shoaling in. Today, ankle deep on the outside shoal/sandbar.
Need 5-10" of rain to get this moving natural....at least. Hope Im wrong.
Is North Channel sputtering / struggling too? Any existing deep water will fold in the deep cut--hope I'm wrong.
The current issue is the hydraulic study that was done this last year is flawed. Severely flawed...if the Cnty uses this bad info to cut/dredge, in my opinion, it will do more harm than good.
That pass has a historical flow of self maintenance from diverging currents-N Channel and S Channel slamming into each other.
The S Channel was always stronger-- but N Channel, fed by Phillippi Creek drainage basin pushed those sediments out-far into the Gulf.
With no rain in most of SRQ, all bets are off-
Result-N Channel shoals in on inside, S Channel takes over. Any outflow will be minimal and SK starts getting eaten away...and it will be a flat, shallow pass. Like the picture attached...

The Sierra Club supported this-they killed Roberts, LSB and Drymon Bays-and it took 45 yrs till Mother Nature got pi**ed off.
The sands closing off N Channel on inside? The sands are not from the Gulf. Those sands are spoils / sand excretioning from Bird Island--that island was sea level in 1962. USACE put over 100 Olympic Size Swimming pools of dredge spoils on that island--and those spoils placed by Army Corp contractors are why N Channel is shallow to this day--they are still choking N Channel.
If you lived here, swam those waters year round--you recognize seasonal wave patterns from N in winter and South on summer. The outflow of runoff and rainfall-all of it.
Just cause someone advocates "it looks pretty/leave it alone" reflects they put not one true thought into that pass, and that someone only sees short term.
Its gotta be repaired. Plan has to include a real hydraulic study-- gee, where do we get that you may ask.

PLEASE! Not a new study--with some local enviro group advising Cnty to limit the last hydraulic study only to Stickney Point Rd?-
Makes me think its all about the Benjamins- oh wait, it is...
This last study disregarded the whole Philippi Creek Basin. Friggin smart people there now, yep. Letters behind their names and all. Hell, front too!
Dont ask those who lived here and swam those turbulent waters, I talked to them, and showed them, but if its a flawed study-they get to do it again! -These Cnty contractors presumed Creek NEVER flowed South. Hell-its written like gospel on the Cnty website- they know!
