🌱 Fairlawn FFA Competes at the State Soil Judging CDE! 🌱

Today, eight Fairlawn FFA members traveled to compete in the Ohio FFA State Soil Judging Career Development Event (CDE) in both the Agricultural Soils and Urban Soils divisions!

🚜 Agricultural Soils focuses on determining land capability and evaluating how suitable the soil is for farming practices and conservation techniques.

🏡 Urban Soils evaluates soil suitability for construction and development, including buildings, sewage treatment systems, driveways, local roads, and lawns and gardens.

Congratulations to both teams for advancing to the state level! We are proud of these members for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to representing Fairlawn FFA. Way to go, Fairlawn! 💙💛

This year’s Farm Day theme was “From Birth to Barn,” where students followed the journey of a dairy calf from birth to becoming a producing dairy cow. Students rotated through five hands-on learning stations, each highlighting an important part of dairy cattle production.

🐮 Station 1: Birth and Calf Care
Students learned about the birthing process, proper care of newborn calves, what calves eat, and the essentials needed to help them grow and thrive.

🌽 Station 2: Nutrition
Students explored animal nutrition, feed ingredients and additives, and how feed is ground, mixed, and delivered to growing livestock.

🩺 Station 3: Animal Health
Students learned about cattle care and management, along with veterinary techniques used to keep animals healthy and productive.

🥛 Station 4: The Milking Process
Students discovered how dairy cows are milked and learned more about the process of producing the milk we use every day.

🧈 Station 5: From Milk to Butter
Students wrapped up the day by learning how butter is made and participating in a hands-on classroom activity where they made their own butter!

A HUGE thank-you goes out to everyone who helped make this year’s Farm Day a success!

👏 Thank you to our supporters:

• Dell Delight Farms and Randy Sailor — for supplying the cattle, baby calf, and heifer used throughout the stations.
• H&H Livestock — for supplying the TMR mixer and feed.
• Benzman Enterprise — for bringing in feed and feed additives.
• Reiter Dairy — for supplying Rosie and Rascal for this year’s Farm Day.
• Tri-County Veterinary Service — for helping support the animal health station.
• Upper Valley Career Center — for providing students from their Veterinary Technician program to assist with the day.

Finally, thank you to all of our Fairlawn FFA members who worked hard to organize, prepare, and lead this year’s Farm Day. Your time, effort, and dedication helped provide students with an educational, engaging, and memorable experience!

Farm Day is a great opportunity to connect students with agriculture and show them where their food comes from. We appreciate everyone who helped bring “From Birth to Barn” to life!

💙💛 Thank you for supporting the Fairlawn FFA Agricultural Education Program!

Today, these five Fairlawn FFA ladies competed in the District 5 Job Interview CDE!

In this event, students put their job interview skills to the test. Each participant prepares a resume and cover letter, completes a job application, participates in an actual interview, and finishes with a post-interview follow-up letter. Each component is evaluated using a detailed rubric.

Great job to these ladies for putting themselves out there, representing Fairlawn FFA, and gaining valuable skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom. We are proud of your efforts and look forward to seeing what you are capable of accomplishing in the future!

Good luck, ladies! 💙💛
