Congratulations to two CCTS alumni on their recent graduation from the Camden County Police Academy–Jonathan Matos and Schneider Torres. They attended the Pennsauken Campus of CCTS and graduated in 2021 from the Law and Public Safety career program.

They completed six months of training at the academy and were hired by the Camden County Police Department.

“We have had past graduates also entered the academy, and have two more entering the next academy class; one will be our first female officer. To say that Mrs. DeSimone and I are proud of them would be an understatement, said Mr. Patrick Richards, LPS instructor at CCTS.

"Their lead instructor praised both of their leadership qualities and their perseverance, and said they finished among the top in their class in Leadership, academics and vehicle operations," Mr. Richards added.

Jasmine Thach’s academic achievements, leadership, and commitment to learning have earned her a full-scholarship, valued at $355,776, to Johns Hopkins University where she plans to major in Mathematics.

She is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2026 at the Pennsauken Campus of Camden County Technical Schools.

A senior in the Digital Media Communications and Early College Associate Degree (ECAD) program, she graduated with her associate degree from Camden County College on May 15, one month before earning her high school diploma.

Jasmine is following in her sister Kaityn's footsteps by also graduating from CCTS with her associate degree and serving as the Valedictorian of her graduating class in 2024.

With a GPA of 105.196, Jasmine was very involved in extra-curricular activities and fully embraced all that CCTS had to offer.

She was a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Creative and Performing Arts Club (CAPA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Student Ambassadors, and the Tornado Times Newspaper staff. She also served as the Secretary of her Sophomore Class and the Art Coordinator for CAPA.

While enrolled in the Digital Media Communications program, Jasmine gained valuable hands-on experience with professional media equipment and learned Adobe software, skills she credits with broadening her educational experience.

“The faculty and staff at CCTS supported me throughout my entire high school career, helping me navigate scholarship applications and encouraging me during times of high stress,” she said. “At Penn Tech, I found a community that both celebrated my successes and supported me when times were tough.”

Reflecting on her dual-enrollment experience, Jasmine said she appreciated the opportunity to take college courses while still in high school.

“I enjoyed having classes with a higher level of difficulty and intensity,” she said. “The flexible schedule allowed me to study more independently, develop strong time-management skills, and adjust to the expectations of college coursework before leaving home.”

When asked why she choose Johns Hopkins, she said was impressed with its strong emphasis on undergraduate research, and it aligned with her career goals.

“Johns Hopkins is known for its extensive research opportunities, and I knew it would allow me to explore the field I’m most passionate about—mathematics,” she said. “Undergraduate mathematics research is less common than research opportunities in some other disciplines, so attending Johns Hopkins gives me a greater chance to pursue the work I love.”

Her passion for mathematics extends beyond the classroom.

“Mathematics is the only universal language,” Jasmine explained. “It helps us understand and explain complex ideas across countless fields. Whether counting meter in poetry, studying patterns in nature, or exploring how planets move through space, mathematics helps us make sense of the world around us.”

After earning her bachelor’s degree, Jasmine plans to work as an actuary before continuing her education and earning her Ph.D. Her long-term goal is to become a college mathematics professor.

She hopes to help others recognize the practical value of mathematics.

“One common misconception is that students don’t realize how often math is used in everyday life,” she said. “I want to gain experience in applied mathematics so I can better demonstrate its real-world applications. Problem-solving skills developed through mathematics are useful in nearly every profession and throughout daily life.”

Jasmine lives in Pennsauken with her family and enjoys playing the kong thom, a traditional Khmer instrument, for the Pounleu Duong Chan Ensemble and for the Cambodian American Heritage Incorporation. A creative person by nature, she also enjoys crocheting and selling some of her custom creations.

Two students from the Gloucester Township Campus of CCTS competed in the Nationals SkillsUSA competition this week in Atlanta, Georgia – Zalen Martin and Jade Mattia.

Zalen is a junior in the Engineering Academy and Early College Associate Degree program. She competed in Principals of Engineering. Jade Mattia is a junior in Culinary Arts and competed in Restaurant Service. Jade took home third place in the nation winning a bronze medal in her category which is a phenomenal achievement!

The students were accompanied by their advisors, Anthony Campeggio, Jr. and Julie Laucks, and represented our school district and state with the utmost professionalism.

Both students previously won gold medals (first place) in the New Jersey state competition in their respective areas which qualified them to compete at Nationals. During the state competition, CCTS achieved Gold status of our Chapter. The Chapter of Excellence. Schools are evaluated on service projects, chapter involvement in school activities, and student enrollment.

“This year, only three schools in New Jersey achieved Gold status. The Gloucester Township Campus of CCTS earned the highest score in the state, missing a perfect score by just three points,” said Mrs. Laucks.

SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference is the largest gathering of America’s future skilled workforce and the ultimate recognition of excellence in career and technical education. Held in Atlanta each June, the NLSC is a week-long celebration of the skilled trades and the accomplishments of career-ready leaders from across the United States.

The event brings together more than 19,000 attendees, including students, instructors, industry partners, government officials, administrators and more. The highlight of the NLSC is the SkillsUSA Championships, where more than 6,500 state champions compete for national gold, silver and bronze medals in 114 skilled and leadership competitions.

Other highlights include the largest technical education trade show in the nation in SkillsUSA TECHSPO, an excitement-fueled Opening Session, transformative leadership training, insightful workshops and seminars, an impactful community service project to benefit city children and, to end the event, a tears-of-joy-inducing Awards Ceremony.

Camden County Technical Schools (CCTS) has named Becky English (formerly Batista) as "2026 Alumna of the Year." She is a 2011 graduate of the district’s Pennsauken Campus and will be honored on June 24, 2026 with a plaque during the graduation ceremony of her alma matter.

While at CCTS, Becky was enrolled in the Business Technology, Banking and Finance career program. During her time at the Pennsauken Campus, she worked in the school library and was an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the National Honor Society.

After graduating from CCTS, Becky attended Stockton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2015. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a passion for the legal profession and went on to build a strong foundation in the field through her work with the New Jersey Superior Court.

Becky also participated in legal internships and gained additional experience as a paralegal specializing in personal injury and family law. Becky went on to earn her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Rutgers Law School, Camden in 2022.

Becky serves as Assistant General Counsel in the Office of the Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Rutgers University, in the Labor and Employment Group. There, she counsels University offices and employees on a broad range of labor and employment matters and represents the University in arbitrations and administrative proceedings before various agencies.

Prior to joining Rutgers, Becky served as a Deputy Attorney General for the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, where she represented and defended the State, its agencies and its employees in complex employment litigation matters in both state and federal court. Becky also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Charles W. Dortch, Jr., J.S.C. in the Camden County Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Division.

“Camden County Technical Schools provided me with a strong foundation for exploring career opportunities and understanding the skills and expectations required across different industries,” said English. “CCTS showed me that I had options when it came to my future career path. It instilled in me a strong work ethic and gave me a head start heading into college.”

“CCTS also provided the support and structure I needed to see beyond my circumstances at the time,” English added. “My teachers encouraged me to pursue my dream of attending and graduating from college. I was challenged academically through AP courses, and those experiences helped shape my future.

Without CCTS and its teachers, I may not have discovered my path. My journey began in the Business program, and I am deeply grateful for everything the school has done for me.”

Becky is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey and the Burlington County and Camden County Bar Associations. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Becky lives in Burlington County with her husband and two children. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.

Yale University-bound senior Miah-Reese Govan is a dedicated scholar, performer, and leader whose passion for both the arts and sciences has shaped an impressive high school career.

A senior in the Performing Arts Academy and Early College Associate’s Degree Program, she graduated with her Associate Degree from Camden County College on May 15, one month before earning her high school diploma as a member of the Class of 2026 at the Gloucester Township Campus of Camden County Technical Schools.

She will attend Yale University on a full scholarship, where she plans to study Neuroscience on the Pre-Med track.

Miah-Reese began her theatrical journey as a freshman and quickly developed into a dynamic and versatile performer. Her stage credits include productions such as Seussical Jr. (Gertrude McFuzz), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Naphtali, Butler), School House Rock Jr. Live (Interplanet Janet, Unpack Your Adjectives), and The Addams Family Musical (Gomez Addams). In addition to theater, she showcased her musical talent as an Alto II vocalist in both the All-South Jersey and All-State New Jersey Mixed Choruses.

Beyond the stage, Miah-Reese has distinguished herself as a student leader and active member of her school community. She participated in Drama Club, Techni-tones choir, Student Council, National Honor Society, and Interact Club. She was also a member of both the volleyball and cheerleading teams, earning Cheerleading MVP in 2024, and serving as the Secretary for the Class of 2026.

Reflecting on her experience in the Performing Arts program, Miah-Reese shared that it taught students far more than acting and performing. She credits the curriculum with developing collaboration, creativity, and the technical skills necessary to transform artistic ideas into fully realized productions.

Her passion for medicine is deeply rooted in her desire to help others. Miah-Reese hopes to pursue a career in diagnostic neuroradiology, combining her interest in science and medicine with her commitment to serving people through compassionate care and innovative research.

She aspires to contribute to the medical field by improving diagnostic processes and advancing research that can positively impact individuals and communities alike.

Miah lives in Chesilhurst and attended Winslow Middle School before joining Camden County Technical Schools.
