As we settle into a new school year, the end-of-day transition can be a big one for children. After hours of learning, concentrating, making choices, and navigating their day, they may not be ready to answer a dozen questions at pickup.

Instead, try starting with connection, observing their cues, and giving them space to share when they’re ready. Open-ended questions like ā€œWhat was something interesting you noticed today?ā€ can invite conversation without putting pressure on them.

This timely article from the Montessori Foundation offers five thoughtful reminders for parents at pickup—and practical ways to support your child’s transition from school to home.

šŸ“– A great read as we begin the new school year!

Summer at Mastro is full of purpose ā˜€ļø

Toddlers preparing smoothies, baking, and harvesting from the garden. Primary students creating, exploring, caring for gerbils, and soaking in long summer days.

Hands-on learning. Independence. Focus. Confidence.

Exactly as childhood should be.

Watching your child light up while exploring nature: priceless 🌿

No prep, no cleanup, no elaborate plan—just time together outside. Turns out, that’s exactly what children need most.

This short read from Tim Seldin is a good reminder to keep it simple.

Montessori education places great importance on caring for and preserving our natural resources and the planet, and there is no better place to begin than in

With grateful hearts, we celebrate Mrs. Bissey as she retires from Mastro. šŸ’

Through her care and guidance, our garden has become a living classroom where children dig, plant, observe, and truly connect with the natural world. Her work has helped both our garden and students thrive.

Thank you Mrs. Bissey for the knowledge, patience, and joy you’ve shared so generously! Your impact will continue to grow 🪓

Please join us in thanking Mrs. Bissey and wishing her all the best in this next chapter!

What does ā€œWork Weekā€ look like in a Montessori school?

It looks like shelves being emptied, materials being cleaned and polished, and classrooms being reimagined piece by piece.

It’s a full reset, but also a pause. A chance for our team to reflect, refine, and prepare environments that will meet children exactly where they are.

The beauty of Montessori isn’t just in what you see during the school year, it’s in the quiet, intentional work that happens behind the scenes.

ā€œAre Montessori children active enough?ā€

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: movement is woven into everything they do. From carrying materials, to rolling rugs, to choosing purposeful work—children are constantly in motion with intention.

As Maria Montessori said, ā€œPlay is the work of the child.ā€ ...and that work is anything but still!
