Welcome to a new season of Destination Imagination at Shrewsbury Public Schools.  The cost is $75 per student ($50 for students whose parents help manage the team).

STATE TOURNAMENT UPDATES

On Saturday March 30th, 8 teams from Shrewsbury public Schools competed at the Destination Imagination State Tournament. Four teams qualified to represent MA at the Global Finals to be held at Kansas City, MO from May 22nd till May 25th.

The High School team Lemonade Brains comprised of Sophomores Aabia Hasan, Diyala Bera, Toyesh Jayaswal and Freshmen Ronit Avadhuta and Andrew Friedman. They were placed 3rd in the Scientific Challenge Medical Mystery.

Middle level team The Golden Marshmallows comprised of Diya Vijayakumar,Shivani Gupta, Laasya Gattu, Vaisalli Navaneethan, Sofiya Goncharova and Jasman Padam. They competed in the Engineering Challenge Monster Effects. They were awarded 2nd Place at the States.

Elementary team The 47 KLLNKA KN1CKL3S IN DA SKYE comprised of Rajat Krishnan Aditya Venkateswaran Andrew Perrault George Kosheff Tyler Boehnke.They competed in the Engineering challenge Monster Effects and were awarded 1st place at the Elementary Level and were also awarded the highly coveted Da Vinci award for exceptional creativity.

The Elementary team The Shrewsbury Slayers comprised of 4th graders Aahil Hasan, Francesco Villani, Ryyan Ghandour, Arin Shinde, Shaival Nanavati and 5th graders Rish*t Avadhuta and Adi Kinhikar. They were placed 2nd in the Engineering Challenge Monster Effects. They were also awarded the Renaissance award for exceptional Engineering and Design in their performance. They were coached by Shrewsbury Sophomore Aabia Hasan

Hearty Congratulations to the Elementary level teams that were placed at the DI Region 8 Tournament that was held on March 9th at the Oak Middle School.

5. A brief write up of their performance: (I think you are not asking for the story, otherwise please let me know) - We received comments like the performance was funny, with songs & dance in the story and the characters were escaped from situation.

A brief write up of their performance.
To test their time machine the Scientists go to the future. They see that in the future there are no trees and everything is dead. They see that aliens have come to the earth to destroy it but earth is already being destroyed by the humans. Humans are cutting down trees. So they want to go back in time and tell everyone not to cut trees. But aliens capture them. The scientists free themselves and go back to present and start telling everyone to save trees.

Brief Writeup of the story:
Their story is a tribute to Worcester Firefighter and Shrewsbury resident, Christopher Roy, who was killed in the line of duty in December 2018. In the story, a girl loses her dad and is troubled by a "monster," that monster being anxiety. The girl's friends at school help her overcome her anxiety attacks to drive the monster away, lift her spirits and encourage her to fight back and improve her mental health.

brief write up of their performance - Grandfather introduces his grandson to Yut, a traditional Korean board game. Instead of using circular coins as pieces, they play the game using humans as pieces. The pieces represent Yin (angry) and Yang (happy). In the end Yin and Yang come together and the grandson tells his grandfather that he will pass on this wonderful game to the next generation. Yut is a game that unites generations!

A brief write up of their performance.- It was a tale about animals (bears) getting captured by a hunter/poacher and how hikers rescue them by using clues. It was about saving animals, and how animals are important to our ecosystem.

The team did an improv performance in which they incorporated research on figureheads that appeared on coins throughout the world. The first half of the skit was in a comedy genre that portrayed Victor Hugo's sullen disposition and Queen Elizabeth's love for animals, then the skit ended with a "flip" to the tragedy genre in which the team performed nonverbally.

Shrewsbury Destination Imagination team are World Champions! They came in first at the Global competition held at TN in May. More than 1400 teams from 15 countries participated in the tournament.

Hearty Congratulations to Shrewsbury Secondary level team Shrewsbury Iced Lattes. They were placed first in the Service Learning Challenge at the Globals. A total of 1400+ teams participated this year. The team members are Aabia Hasan, Diyala Bera, Divya Raghunathan and Sneha Ramesh. The team managers were Amber Khan and Mumtaz Hasan.
