Last day in Paris! Yesterday (Wednesday) was the afternoon trip to Versailles, and inside the palace it was beastly hot. The gardens were, as always, beautiful and shady. Today's happy Thursday events included a trip to see Napoleon's tomb at Les Invalides, which is a majestic building on the grounds of the historic veteran's hospital and armory of Paris. The VA hospital is still there, and the armory is now a museum, the Musee de L'armee.
No one has a more impressive tomb than Napoleon.
We also enjoyed the museum, where we saw piles of armaments, dioramas and digital dramatizations of battles, and one of the most famous portraits of Napoleon himself.
After lunch at the museum cafe, some students remained there to visit the Rodin Museum next door, home of the Thinker statue and other beautiful sculptures in the Rodin garden. Others adjourned to the FIAP to pack and rest.
Tonight is our final party, with all the Centenary folks, atop the Montparnasse tower (Tour Montparnasse), an office building with a rooftop deck and incredible views. Tomorrow we board buses at 8:30 AM for the airport. We've had a great time, but if the students are to be believed, all are longing for ice cubes, air conditioning and $1.00 cokes at McDonalds. Can't blame them.
Dedication! #Centenaryinparis #Centenaryproud
Three of our intrepid explorers, who did 500, yes, 500 steps up to the top of the tower at Notre Dame. (This is the "pre-climb" picture).
