Unpopular opinion, but one that needs to be said.
The “top team” isn’t always the best fit for your athlete. At 14 and younger, it’s not about status, it’s about skill development.
✅ Are they getting reps?
✅ Are they being coached with intention?
✅ Are they building confidence and fundamentals?
✅ Are they surrounded by a culture that supports growth?
Chasing prestige too early can stunt progress.
Development > Division. Always.

While the information is more accessible than ever, some people still hold onto the old myth that kids shouldn’t strength train.
Remember, strength training is simply producing force against a load/resistance.
Wrestling a friend, carrying a backpack, monkey bars, jumping, swinging a bat, etc
They’re all forms of strength training.
So why does the dumbbell or barbell suddenly become dangerous?
Hint - it doesn’t.
The key is that you don’t train kids like mini adults. The exercises, coaching, volume and expectations should all match their age, ability and stage of development.
Play the long game. Keep it FUN. Build movement skills, coordination and confidence.
If you’re training younger athletes, I have a 12 week program, PlayStrong, that was built specifically for that purpose.
For older athletes ready to develop speed, the GPP Reloaded + Speed Kills bundle takes them from a general foundation into more advanced speed, plyometric and strength training over 12 weeks while saving you money compared to buying them separately.
