Dear Parents,

The Association of Shreveport Private Schools (ASPS) has been collaborating with one another over the past few weeks to design effective policies and procedures to safely host a basketball season for our respective student athletes. Such mutual support and cooperation are and have been especially helpful in the midst of this challenging school year.

In the spirit and necessity to adhere to COVID-19 protocols to provide safe campuses and athletic environments, ASPS will be implementing the following for the upcoming basketball season.

Varsity Basketball Season and League Tournament
· Each school will field one Varsity Girls’ and Varsity Boys’ basketball team. These teams will prioritize 7th and 8th Grade students.
· Each school will play one double header per week (between January 19 to March 12) for a total of eight games. This will allow each girls’ and boys’ team to play on the same night at the same school and allow each school to play one another at home and away.
· Each school will be afforded one week of practice (March 22 to 26) before the ASPS League Tournament (March 29 to April 2)
· Each school agrees to a maximum roster size of 15 athletes per team.
· Each school agrees for its athletes, coaches, and game volunteers to be always masked. Only the 10 athletes currently competing on the basketball court may not wear a mask.

Fans in the Stands
· Each athlete will be allowed a specific number of family members to attend per game. Fan attendance will be determined by each school’s ability to seat fans in the stands with appropriate social distancing.
· Fans will be required to receive a temperature check and answer a symptom check questionnaire prior to entering a game. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher or who exhibits COVID-19 symptoms may not attend.
· Fans will be required to social distance in the stands and sit in assigned areas as designated by each school.

What is clear is that this pandemic affects our schools’ communities. Although these steps will limit the impact and spread of the virus, there is no guarantee this will completely mitigate COVID-19’s impact on ASPS’ sports league. Those who elect to have their children participate understand and accept that the spread of the infection may be likely.

It is important to emphasize that everyone’s actions affect the entire community; thus, it is the responsibility of ASPS—and their constituents—to lead by example, embrace accountability, and implement best practice guidelines for the welfare of our students. Public mask wearing, conscientious social distancing, and limiting of basketball teams and attending fans are necessary steps to control the spread of COVID-19, increase the chances that we can continue to offer in-person education, and reduce scenarios that could induce quarantining.

We are grateful for your trust and support and look forward to a great basketball season despite its uncommon format for this school year.

Thank you,

Our 6th Grade classes have been working on pop up books that depict a scene from a book read independently this quarter. Students were asked to create the scene using a pop up, identify the setting (one of our literary elements), and write a cinquain poem about that scene. A cinquain is a five line poem the starts with a noun, two adjectives, three verbs, a four word statement, and ends with a synonym to the first noun. We love to see what our Eagles come up with!
