Loyola College Prep

Academic Excellence. Faith in Action. Student Involvement. Since 1902. Loyola College Preparatory School is a four-year Catholic high school in the Shreveport-Bossier City area.

Founded by the Jesuit order as an all-male institution, Loyola first opened its doors as St. John’s in 1902. The name changed to Jesuit High School in 1960 and later to Loyola College Prep to honor the founder of the Jesuit order, St. Ignatius of Loyola. It became coed in 1987. Loyola's students, both Catholic and non-Catholic, come together from many different middle schools. Loyola continually seeks motivated students from all socio-economic backgrounds, without regard to race, gender, creed or national origin.

Flyer Fans, meet Alexandra Brucia, Class of 2025! She is in 8th grade at First Baptist Church School, and loves spending time with her friends, playing competitive soccer, and watching movies with her family.

Alexandra is looking forward to becoming a Flyer because of the sense of community between students and teachers, our class size, and the religious aspect of Loyola. Alexandra is excited to meet new people next year, and she has hopes to play soccer for the Lady Flyers.

This summer she has plans to go to Florida with her family and friends -- sounds like a fun time!

We can't wait to see you in August, Alexandra!

We want to say thank you to CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System for the life-saving education and training our faculty and coaches received last month. Because of this generous donation, 22 Loyola coaches and faculty received American Heart Association's Basic Life Support, AED, and CPR training from the CHRISTUS Clinical Education team. We appreciate this opportunity so our faculty and coaches can be prepared should an emergency happen.

It is important to us that our students, parents and visitors feel safe at our school, events and during our games. Now we will have faculty members who are certified at every game, event and on every floor of our school.

Congratulations, Nathan Lirette! Nathan was announced as the Flyer of the Year at the Senior Award Ceremony last Friday.

The Flyer of the Year award is the highest achievement a student can receive at Loyola. The Flyer of the Year is chosen by the faculty and given to the student who best shows the qualities that reflect Loyola's mission and is a man or woman for others in every sense.

Nathan played football and baseball and is involved in Key Club, Student Government Association, National Honor Society and Flyer for Life. More than his accomplishments on the field and in the classroom, Nathan is responsible and respectful of everyone at Loyola College Prep. He is not someone who is looking for attention or glory, but he is someone who is there to help and willing to do anything he can for someone else. He is a champion for the underdog; his teachers say he is the kid you want in your class. He makes people around him better, and we could not be more proud that he was chosen as Flyer of the Year.

As a part of our tradition, the Flyer of the Year receives the first yearbook!

Hey, Flyers! Meet Ava Bauer, Class of 2025! Ava is an 8th Grader at St. John's. She is very passionate about her Catholic faith and following her dream of opening her own bakery one day.

Ava chose Loyola for high school because of the small size that makes it feel more like a family, and the many opportunities Loyola offers to help her grow academically and spiritually. She wants to play basketball at Loyola, and she is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of the Catholic faith.

This summer you can find Ava either at the beach with her family, playing basketball, horseback riding and, of course, baking! Can we taste test for you, Ava?

Help us welcome Ava into the Loyola family! We can't wait to see you in the fall!

Our Story

Loyola College Preparatory School offers a faith-based high school experience grounded in Catholicism and growing students in conscience, character and compassion. The Loyola experience provides opportunities for students to evolve in academic excellence, faith in action and student involvement.

It is located in an urban setting and surrounded by hospitals, churches, a cathedral and a Catholic middle and elementary school. Its students, both Catholic and non-Catholic, come together from many different middle schools in the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area.

As part of providing quality education, Loyola began 1-1 iPad learning in 2012 to ensure students are technologically proficient in a constantly evolving society. Nearly half of the faculty has earned a master's degree or above as well as served in positions varying from newspaper editor to attorney.

Students of all faith backgrounds join as a student body for weekly mass at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans just footsteps away from the campus. Of the 35 student organizations available at Loyola, there are countless opportunities to serve the community and show the love of Jesus Christ.
