On day three, we began our wine adventure in Neive, one of the communes of Barbaresco. I visited the winery of Massimo Rivetti on my very first visit to Piemonte and I’ve been coming back ever since. The vineyards are well-maintained and the wines are well-made. Best of all is Rivetti Wine Educator, Marta Boschiazzo. Marta literally grew up in a vineyard. At the age of five, she began traipsing through her own family vineyards and helping out with harvest. And now, for the last nine years or so, Marta has been a part of the Rivetti Team. She is a gem. Her knowledge of grape growing and winemaking, in addition to her ability to relay information, makes her an ideal wine representative for Rivetti wines. Thank you, Marta. Corkscrew Wisdom will be back!

Every great day has a great ending and ours ended with pizza and wine. Looking forward to day four; it is going to be a doozie. Stay tuned for more of Corkscrew Wisdom adventures and shenanigans.

At last night’s welcome dinner, I looked around the room and thought “this is going to be a great tour.” And I was right.

A late afternoon truffle hunt in private woods was a huge success. The exclusive wine tasting with Piemonte wines paired with all things truffle was as brilliant as the hunt. Magic happens when wonderful people share great food and wine in a beautiful setting. We had that today and guess what? We’ve only just begun. Take a gander.

On our first night of the tour, we always have a welcome dinner and our choice of restaurants is always VENTUNO.1. The food, the wine, the service are top notch. Throw in an Italian modern vibe and the tone is set. Francesco, you are the best; thank you for creating an impressive first impression for night one of Corkscrew Wisdom’s End of Summer Tour.

Another Alba restaurant gets a Michelin star and my wild boar black truffle fettuccine may have been the dish that pulled that coveted prize down from the sky. And when in Piemonte, always start with a glass of Alta Langa. The fettuccine; however, was paired with a 2021 Barbaresco. It was divine.

If you don’t have pasta with black truffle cream sauce while in Alba, you are wrong, just wrong.

Alba, we love you! After a long flight and a six hour time difference, staying up always helps us regulate our sleeping pattern. How do we accomplish that? It goes like this: check-in, take a quick shower, and then leisurely walk to our favorite neighborhood pizzeria.

At Bistro Duomo, we ordered the Serrano Jamon pizza and paired it with a Deltetto rosé brut; it was the perfect choice as an apertif drink that transitioned into a great partnering wine with the meal. The flavor and aroma characteristics of thirty months on the lees accentuated the yeastiness of the pizza crust. With notes of raspberry and red cherry, the wine’s acidity refreshed our palates and smooth tannins cut through the delicate fattiness of the ham. Have you ever had a sparkling wine made from Nebbiolo grapes? If not, put it on your bucket list. Even better, travel with us to Piemonte and experience the beauty and wine from this amazing region.

Celebrating love, life, and seizing the moment. Stay tuned as we pop the cork of Alta Langa, sip the wine of kings (Barolo), traipse through the vineyards of Neive and road trip it to Gavi. And if you find yourself a little jealous, no worries, we will be going back soon. We would love for you to travel with us.
