Today was bittersweet as we bid farewell to our amazing Associate Program Director, Clinical Education Enthusiast, Elite Call Day Food Orderer and Equality King👑: Dr.Shahzeem Bhayani. His wisdom, kindness and dedication have profoundly touched us all. Dr. Bhayani has played a pivotal role in training students, residents and faculty alikein his 5 years at LSUHS. From gearing us up for boards on rounds to opening our eyes to health disparities, his goal was always to better us as physicians and the health of our community.
We wish him the best of luck as he moves on to complete his heme/onc fellowship in St. Louis. You'll be greatly missed, but we know great things await you in your next chapter!
Grateful for all that you have done for our program💛💜
And that's a wrap on
We had such a great time learning the latest updates in the thoracic world, participating in bootcamp, presenting our research and enjoying our time in San Diego! We also got to see our APD, Dr. Eaton give a talk on ECMO 🫁
American Thoracic Society
On May 2, 2024, our program hosted the Annual Internal Medicine Research Day featuring a keynote talk from Dr. Shaalan Beg, a selection of oral presentations by our residents, and a display of posters from residents and students across the department. The day ended with prizes for both the oral and poster presentations. This event was made possible by all the members of our Research Committee! We would like to extend a special thank you to our guest speaker, Dr. Beg, for taking the time to speak and visit with us and all of the faculty involved in judging the presentations.

Can’t wait to learn from the experiences of this amazing panel❤️
A token of appreciation to all our residents who make LSU Health Shreveport such a wonderful place!
What an inspiring day for our residents today! We had the opportunity to hear from a panel of strong female role models in our hospital during our Women in Medicine Discussion. We discussed topics such as microaggressions in the workplace, claiming space in traditionally male-dominated fields, balancing parenting with career goals and pay gaps that continue to exist. We got to hear how each of our attending’s from both medicine and surgical subspecialties navigated their paths as Women in Medicine 💪💪
We’re so grateful to all of them for sharing their experience with us today!
Early Galantines for our fabulous PGY3s! Cheers to rocking this journey together🥂
Future of GI is bright!!
LSU Health Shreveport Internal Medicine Residents, Dr. David Okuampa, Dr. Pooja Shah, and Dr. Siva Gandu were recently awarded the SCOPY Award (Service Award for Colorectal Cancer Outreach, Prevention and Year-Round Excellence) from the American College of Gastroenterology!
This award was given to the residents for their project, "Cutting Out Cancer," which is a campaign to educate employees of local barbershops and salons to serve as spokespersons to their clientele about the importance of colorectal cancer screening. Those participating receive education about the cancer, populations most affected, methods, benefits and affordability of screening and resource availability and in turn are able to help educate their clients and begin proactive conversations to destigmatize colorectal cancer screening and promote this lifesaving measure!
Congratulations to our residents and their faculty mentor and Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Dr. Sudha Pandit (not pictured)!
So proud of our residents 🥹😍
