Congratulations to April Zorn for completing the online MSRS program and NSU!

April is employed at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine as their Performance Exam Suite and Simulation Activities Manager. With her Master’s degree, she is up for promotion as a Radiology Instructor. In this role, she will assist the Radiology Course Director with planning and instruction for hands-on radiologic skills events in a medical school setting. April was born in Massachusetts but has lived in Southeast Alabama most of her life. She graduated from the Wallace College Radiologic Technology Program (Dothan, Alabama) in 2002, completed her bachelor’s in Radiologic Science from Midwestern State University (Wichita Falls, Texas) in 2015, and has now completed her Master's degree at Northwestern State University.

April is passionate about radiologic imaging and she is excited to have found a way to give back to her profession within the medical school arena. Her advice to students and techs is to find your passion and think outside of the box on how you can further your career in that manner.

Congratulations to Lessie Doucet for completing her RT-BSRS degree!! Here is what she has to say 🙂

I am from Eunice, La, and attended radiologic science school at Louisiana State University at Eunice in 2011. I am currently a Radiology Manager at Ochsner Acadia General Hospital in Crowley, La. I plan to pursue my MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall. Northwestern has connected the dots for me in my current profession. My organization follows and utilizes most of the skills taught at NSU, but these courses have helped me better understand why they are used and the best ways to implement them. I have really enjoyed these courses.

Way to go, Lessie!!

Congratulations to Jennifer Frunz for completing the RT-BSRS program with NSU! Here is what Jennifer wanted to say. 🙂

I was born and raised in Washington State and currently live in Tenino, WA with my husband and son. I graduated from Mossyrock High School in 1998, attended Yakima Valley Community College, and graduated with my Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology in 2001. In 2006 I learned and became registered in Mammography. I have worked for Providence Hospital for the past 20 years. I currently do x-ray and mammography.
Attending NSU has helped me expand on my skills and experience. While I was originally intimidated at the thought of returning to college after 20 years, the atmosphere and educators helped me build confidence in my existing knowledge and helped foster the desire to do more. I look forward to professionally applying my education in the future. I am not exactly sure how I will use my degree yet, but I recently became a Nationally Certified Breast Patient Navigator, so I am excited to see where it leads.

However, I did want to take a minute to say thank you, Becky Farmer! For all your help over the last year and a half. Going back to school wasn't even in my plans until about the time Covid-19 hit, it was intimidating. I know that I bombarded you with any questions. You always responded very quickly and didn't make me feel stupid for asking them. You really made me feel like after 20 years in the workforce that I could do it. I appreciate that. Everyone at NSU has been great and I am glad I went back.

Congratulations to Rian Marshall on completing his BASAH degree!!

Rian's hometown is Bossier City, Louisiana, and went to Airline High School. Rian completed his associate's degree with Southern University at Shreveport. Rian started out at Ochsner- LSU Shreveport in 2018 right out of school, recently moved to Houston in January after accepting a full-time Interventional position at Houston Methodist. (In the middle of starting the BASAH program after a 2-year break.) Finished the program as a full-time student in 3 semesters and made the dean list all three semesters.

Rian plans to continue his education by receiving an MBA degree, which would allow him to pursue a career in business administration or starting a new business venture at some point in the future. Rian said that Radiology will always be his passion, so whatever God’s plan is for his life; healthcare will be the center of it. Thanks for the opportunities, he will forever be grateful for SUSLA and NSU!

Way to go, Rian!!

As you may be aware, the School of Allied Health (SAH) is undergoing some leadership changes. When Dr. Joel Hicks became the Dean of the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health, this started a domino effect in the SAH. He vacated the position of Department Head. Dr. Kelli Haynes was very fortunate to fill the position of Department Head of the SAH. When that position was filled, it created a vacancy for the BSRS program director position.

We were fortunate to have an existing faculty member, with years of experience at NSU apply for the position. Ultimately, the search committee recommended Dr. Tammy Curtis to be the next Director of the BSRS Program for the SAH. Dr. Curtis will start the position immediately.

Dr. Curtis brings experience from several roles within the SAH. She has served as a clinical coordinator and most recently the program coordinator for the MSRS program. She is very active in the profession and will continue to represent NSU at the local, state, and national levels. She is a co-author of the most prominent positioning textbook for radiologic sciences, Merrill's Atlas of Radiographic Positioning and Procedures. Dr. Curtis is an advocate for students, an experienced educator, and will be an asset to our College in her new role!

Would you please join me in congratulating Dr. Curtis as the new SAH BSRS Program Director!
