They are trained in special education law, positive behavior supports, non violent restraint methods for emergency situations and training from the Child Welfare Advanced Institute. in 2007, T.E.A.M.S. has branched from serving just Caddo Parish, to Bossier Parish and then into Rural Outreach of five additional parishes: Webster, Claiborne, Red River, Bienville and DeSoto Parishes. The focus has shifted from working solely with students “at risk” of becoming involved in the court system to working with students with unique learning needs and homeless students. The focus changed to prevention when results proved that offering students the educational supports they needed before they meet the criteria of “at risk”, kept students out of the court system altogether. It’s reported that Louisiana has the second highest drop-out rate in the nation. Many students that drop-out, have unique learning needs such as mental health, physical, cognitive disabilities and behavior issues. The Solution:
By providing education advocacy, a student has a greater chance of finishing school than if there are no supports. By empowering a parent/guardian and professionals, they understand that students have rights to an education and dropping out is not the only solution. Reducing the dropout rate due to academic deficits, suspensions and behavior issues. Reducing court involvement or possible out of home placement. We want students to be productive citizens and education is the only way to accomplish this goal. We predict that 87% or more of the students will benefit from having an education advocate. Our Services:
Providing support by attending schools meetings (Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504 (IAP), Behavior Plan/Positive Behaviors Supports, Hearings, Interagency Service Coordination meetings, and court proceedings. Working with many professionals to coordinate wrap around services so the student has the best support possible to complete his/her education. In Caddo & Bossier Parish, T.E.A.M.S. offers services for students with unique learning needs, are at-risk, or already involved in the court system. In Bienville, Claiborne, Desoto, Red River, and Webster Parishes, T.E.A.M.S. will be assisting a select number of students with unique learning needs and homeless children. is an agency that wants to unify families, schools and communities together to better support students in need! When supports are separated into different pockets, no one is sure of current services received or additional services available to support the student in need. We would like to combine our efforts as service providers in order to build supports for students in your area.
