Join us for the Fall 2023 Muses Study Series! The series, led by Dr. Jeff Hendricks '75, will focus on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway.
Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) is considered one of America's greatest writers. His short fiction and novels, through their direct and natural style, and their international locales, have been extremely influential since Hemingway first started publishing as part of "The Lost Generation" in Paris in the early 1920s. In the 1930s he moved to Key West and wrote about the Spanish Civil War. In the 1940s he reported on World War II. Winner of the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature, Hemingway has come to embody the writer as self-conscious adventurer who clearly and objectively observes the world around him.

“Our main exhibitions this semester center around Louisiana and France - our larger historical and cultural connections as well as more specific ties with Shreveport,” said Alissa Klaus, director of the Meadows Museum.
“The semester will begin with a juxtaposition of documentary photography in Louisiana and pictures taken by first-year students on this year's Centenary in Paris trip. In October, we will exhibit artworks by the Shreveport Art Club as well as a student-curated exhibition of works by Jean Despujols, a French painter who eventually settled in Shreveport and whose works founded the Meadows Museum. And, as always, our Project Space Gallery will offer a variety of mediums and topics including Jude Williams’s multidisciplinary work, Edgar Cano’s brightly colored ‘deformed canvases,’ and Jessica Hawkins’s silkscreen prints.”
