September 27 was named Justin Atchison Day by Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins, in honor of Dr Atchison's work on the recent NASA DART mission.

As you might have seen in the news, NASA's DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) mission was completed on Monday, testing kinetic impact to "nudge" an asteroid off course.

Justin Atchison graduated from Caddo Magnet High in 2001 and worked as a mission design lead on the DART project. He works for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.

Yesterday afternoon, @cmhsmocktrial and @cmhsbsa had the honor of hosting Donovan Stone and Shawn Greene as speakers! Students got to learn about their experience as clerks on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. They also got to ask their own questions about Mr. Stone and Mr. Greene's experiences, from clerking at federal courts to law school. It was an honor to hear from them today and a great learning experience for all students involved! Thank you to Mrs Graham and Mrs Soileau for facilitating this event.

We’re so happy with our new outdoor classroom, “Morehead’s Meadow”! This space is dedicated in honor of Mrs Deborah Morehead, who retired last year after 32 years teaching English, world geography, creative writing, and more in the gt department here at Magnet. Any teacher can sign up to hold their classes out here, and there are yoga mats and folding chairs for anyone to use. Morehead’s Meadow is a totally technology-free space but other than that any kind of lesson can be taught outside! We’re so excited to unplug and enjoy this beautiful space! Thank you to everyone who helped put it together, including Mr Allen, Mr Medlin and Mrs Procell, and CMHS students Cole Jackson and Andrew Lawrence. Stop by and see it between E wing and the T buildings!

Movie night in the library at 6:00 this Friday! The event is free and concessions will be sold! Stop by the library this week to check out the banned books week display and vote for what movie you want to watch.
