The LSUS Alumni Affairs & Association proudly recognized seven exceptional alumni at its 2026 Alumni Awards Brunch, honoring individuals whose careers and community service exemplify the impact of an LSUS education.
Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Hefner, neurosurgeon at Willis Knighton Health and recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award (pictured second to the right).
The Alumni Association also inducted six graduates into the LSUS Circle of Excellence: Dr. Toby Brooks, Mark Cantrell, Kendrick Farris, Renisha Sanders, Marty Young, and Shelby Keith.
Collectively, these honorees have advanced healthcare, education, athletics, business, public service, and community development while demonstrating extraordinary leadership and commitment to others. We are proud to celebrate their accomplishments and the lasting impact they continue to make throughout Louisiana and beyond.

Three-time Olympian, Shreveport native, and LSU Shreveport alumnus Kendrick Farris is bringing fitness and nutrition education to local parks this summer.
Through his FEED (Fueling Every Eaterβs Development) initiative, Farris will host interactive activities that teach children about healthy eating, movement, and plant-forward nutrition in a fun, engaging way. These events are designed to empower the next generation to make informed choices and build lifelong healthy habits.

For the third straight season, LSUS Fishing has finished among the nation's elite, ending the year ranked No. 9 in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year Standings. π
With six boats finishing in the top 100 at the national championships and a roster featuring a talented group of young anglers, the future is bright for a program that continues to make waves on the national stage.
