The rate of su***de is rapidly increasing among African Americans, especially adolescents and young adults. We can reduce these rates by educating ourselves and breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health in our community. Let’s start by dispelling two common myths about su***de.
Myth # 1 : Most su***des are caused by one single traumatic event.
Fact : Most are a buildup of stressful and traumatic events that cause depression so severe that ending one's life may seem like the only option.
Myth #2 : Only people with mental illness have suicidal thoughts.
Fact : Suicidal thoughts can be caused by excessive stress, pain, and unhappiness. These feelings and thoughts can be felt by anyone.
Let’s do our part in bringing awareness to mental health and preventing su***de!

In the spirit of the 22 collegiate women who boldly defied the order of the day by participating in the Women's Suffrage March for women’s right to vote in 1913, we encourage ALL sorors to participate in the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington on August 26th in Washington, D.C.!
They recognized the need to be engaged, to speak up, and to advocate for voting rights, for justice, for equality, and for freedom...now it’s our turn!
And remember sorors, this is not a commemoration, but a CONTINUATION!

The right to vote is fundamental to democracy, yet in statehouses across the country, we see systemic, targeted attacks on that sacred right and attacks designed to limit and diminish voters of color and young people. That’s why we must restore the Voting Rights Act!
