Our last senior to highlight is our goalkeeper!

Naomi “Omi” McGuirk has been playing soccer since she was three years old. She made the varsity team at Magnet High as a sophomore and after a brief hiatus last year to explore other sports, came back her senior year as the starting goalkeeper. Omi’s talents aren’t limited to the soccer field though! She’s also excelled on the Varsity softball, swim, and powerlifting teams at Magnet.

Outside of sports, Omi has managed to maintain a 4.6 GPA while participating in Gifted and Advanced classes. She’s also been elected her class’s Vice President for four years. Her real passion, though, is film production, and she showed off those skills last year when she won first place in the Louisiana History Day state competition, with her amazing documentary on Sam Cooke. Omi’s also been a SkillsUSA officer at Caddo Career and Technology Center for the past two years. She competed in the state SkillsUSA competition last year, where she won another first place honor – this time in Advertising Design.

When she’s not studying, practicing, competing, or creating, she’s working as an assistant swim coach or babysitting. Omi has been accepted to numerous colleges already and is trying to narrow down her options. Wherever she goes, she plans to study journalism and is sure to do amazing things with all of her incredible talents.

Next up for our Senior Spotlights is Adelynn Wilson !!

Adelynn Grace Wilson is finishing her senior year at Caddo Magnet High School with a GPA of 4.8. She has been accepted into universities in AL, NC, SC, TN, & TX; although she is still undecided at this time where she wants to attend. She plans to major in Bio-Chem or Molecular Biology and pursue graduate work in research. While at CMHS, she has been in the TAPS (Talented Arts Program) and has played in a band with her classmates at numerous concerts. Adelynn plays piano, guitar, and bass and has been taking piano lessons for over 10 years. This past fall she was recognized as one of five finalists for CMHS’s Student of the Year. She has played soccer for CMHS all four years - three years on Varsity and one year as the Co-Captain of the JV team. Outside of school, she has played both club and rec soccer for 14 years. One of Adelynn’s passions is creative writing, and she has won both local and national writing competitions for her short stories and poems. She is very active in her church and youth group. Serving with the church’s mission’s ministry, she has gone on mission trips both internationally and stateside. Her faith and passion have also led her to currently serve as President and previously serve as Chaplain for CMHS’s Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s club. Although she hates to leave CMHS and its wonderful teachers and staff, she is nervously excited to write her next chapter this coming year.

Our second Lady Mustangs senior to be highlighted is Carolina Resendez, one of our midfielders. Her mom shared some interesting facts about Carolina!

Our second Lady Mustangs senior to be highlighted is Carolina Resendez, one of our midfielders. Her mom shared some interesting facts about Carolina!

Carolina started her soccer journey right before her freshman year of high school. Before she started practicing with her middle school team during her 8th grade year, she had no experience in soccer. That didn’t stop her from trying out and making the team her freshman year! She’s been a dedicated Lady Mustang for the past four years and during that time, she’s grown tremendously in her technical abilities and soccer knowledge. Carolina is truly a well-rounded, hard-working young lady. She has maintained a 4.6 GPA while being involved in many extra-curricular activities and working part-time at Canes, where she was recently promoted to be a certified trainer.

Carolina is active both at CMHS (attending the French Literary Rally) and at Caddo Career and Technology Center, where she is enrolled in the Emergency Medical Responder class. Through CCTC, she earned her certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and is a licensed Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Carolina also leads the CCTC campus as an officer for SkillsUSA. Carolina isn’t all work though! She is known for baking and sharing her famously delicious brownies! We are extremely lucky to have such a talented, smart, kind leader on our team.

After 3 years of service as the Communications Chair of the PTSA, Jenny McGuirk is stepping down. But fear not! We have an awesome parent who has graciously volunteered to step up and serve as our new Communications Chair! Here's a little bit about her:

I’m Brandi Alexander, I have worked in healthcare for over 20 years. I am the mom of one son - a sophomore - wife of one husband - a fireman. I've been involved with school since having a kindergartener in the following ways: room mom, head of hospitality committee, luncheon committees, PTSA treasurer, spirit wear sales/organization. I also enjoy playing Mahjong!

Brandi will be the new person behind the PTSA social media accounts. If you ever want something highlighted on these accounts or think there's an event happening that should be mentioned, message her through the Facebook account!

Welcome Brandi and thank you for volunteering!

If you want to work with the PTSA in any capacity, let us know!
