We are so proud of Ms. Robin! Robin has been working hard to get her CDA. The Child Development Associate Credential is a national credential awarded to those who work with children and meet the highest professional standards in childcare. Robin took 120 extra hours of classes, was observed in the classroom and had to take the national test to achieve this certification. Good job Ms. Robin Maxwell!

American Child in Greenwood needs two quality people to join our family. We are looking to fill 1 part time and 1 full time position.
Part time position would be afternoon van driver to pick up school kids and be with them after school. This position would offer full time hours in the summer and in school holidays.
Full time position would be a preschool floater during the day and picking up school kids after school and being with them in the afternoon.
Both positions must be 25 or older for insurance and willing and able to drive a van.

We will have drinking water available tomorrow at each location for our families that are in need of it. In addition, if you are without any water and would like to bring a container when you drop off tomorrow, we will be glad to fill it for you before pick up time.

Both locations will be operating normal hours on Monday. One more curve has been thrown our way. Caddo schools announced tonight that they will not have school this week. Monday will be a closed day and they want the kids to all do virtual instruction from Tuesday-Friday. We are happy to take care of the school age children during this time, however there are a few issues we will have to work through with this.
1. The schools should be communicating the zoom plan, schedule, and how to connect with parents. I haven’t heard that they have yet. We have 10 different schools K-6 and 90 different children so they all will have their own schedules and connection protocols. You will have get those from the school and give that information to us so that we know when, where, and how they will be in a class. The schools will not give us this information.
2. The schools during Covid lockdown were providing Chromebooks or tablets. If your child does not have one to use the school would need to provide, but we haven’t seen a plan yet for them to do so.
3. ALL kids doing virtual school will need to bring the appropriate charger and have to have headphones or earbuds. This is mandatory. Our experience during lockdown is that it was impossible to do that many kids in that many classes when they are all hearing their neighbor’s class.
4. If you can’t or don’t want your child doing school at the center, they would need to be kept at home until after school hours. This was an issue during the lockdowns as some parents just wanted them to do school at home, but we do not have staffing to do school with 70 kids and activities with the other 20. We have to treat school days as school days just like they would in person.
We will get through this week and do the very best we can with little notice from the school, but we need everyone’s cooperation to get it done.
Please share!

It’s always calming to read a good book! Especially with a child!
Sharing books with children can create a small oasis of calm, in an otherwise chaotic world.

We want to thank all of our parents who are first responders and helping our community through this crisis. We feel very blessed to be able to support you as you go to work each day helping others.

Parents of Schoolagers! Be sure to pick up your school work packet today! We begin morning school work at American Child Monday morning. We need parents to fill the folders that you pick up with the work your child needs to get done each day. If work needs to be done on a computer, we need you to send a computer and give us passwords and directions, so that we can help your child. Be sure that your child has a book or books to read each day. We will be having reading time every morning and many afternoons. Talk to your child about how mornings at American Child are for them to get their school work done and how important that is. Together we can make sure that the children at American Child continue learning during this time!

Parents, under Governor Edwards’ latest stay at home order, it is our understanding that daycares are considered essential and we will remain open for those that need to be at work.

Parents/Friends
We have seen a number of posts recently seeking childcare for workers, particularly in hospitals. We have spots to take children right now. In particular, we were authorized by the state to make additional spots available for children of first responders and healthcare workers on even a temporary basis. We are charging no registration fees for these families during this time and waiving two week notices to leave while we are still uncertain about work situations. In addition, we will be having school time each morning beginning Monday so that children will have supervised time each day to work on the online or home lessons while school is out.
We are doing our very best to honor our commitments to our enrolled kids and try to also be as flexible as possible to everyone who needs care during this time.
Any parents who need care on temporary or permanent basis, please give us a call today and we will do our best to help.

We know this whole situation brings up more questions than we might have answers for, but we are committed to keeping our parents working and the children's lives normal during this time.
We know you might have questions over the weekend. Please feel free to contact one of us at the numbers below if you have any questions or anything to report.
It often works much better for us if you text as we are more likely to be able to respond more quickly than a phone call. If texting does not work for you, please feel free to call.

Parents,
Earlier today we participated in a phone conference with Matthew Block, Executive Counsel to Governor Edwards. With the information that we have from that conference and from the CDC, we have decided to remain open. Ultimately, Covid-19 does not appear to be dangerous to children. We realize that in order for our parents to continue to work and provide for their families, they must have childcare. We take this commitment to our families very seriously, and we will uphold this commitment as long as we feel it is prudent and safe according to the information we have.
We will continue to provide our preschoolers with the same care and curriculum as usual. We will provide care for our school age children like we do during the summer (at the summer rate).
In order to continue to provide service, we will be taking every precaution to keep everyone healthy. We ask that you do not send your child if they have any indications at all that they are sick. PLEASE do not give your child Tylenol or any other fever reducer in order to send them to daycare. This endangers the other families, our staff and prolongs this problem.
Our policy on sending “sick” children home will be more stringent. If a child has ANY symptoms of illness, they will be sent home immediately. We ask that parents do not go past the lobby of the centers to go get their children as this will bring in more outside germs than necessary. We will bring your children to you. Children and staff will wash their hands immediately when they enter the center. All areas will be cleaned and disinfected multiple times a day.
If we work together, we can withstand this difficult time.
If you don't mind please share this post, as all of our parents are not following this page and we want them all to see it.
Thank you,
John and Eve
